RAM PATRO MEMORIAL AWARD FOR 2006-07 ANNOUNCED

The award is given away every year, mainly to encourage young and promising journalists of the State.

GANGTOK, May 18: The SIKKIM EXPRESS family announces the Ram Patro Memorial Award for 2006-07.

The Ram Patro Memorial Award selection committee has selected Vijay Gurung, Sikkim Correspondent – UNI for the Ram Patro Memorial Award for the most promising journalist of the State for 2006-07.

Similarly, Nirmal Mangar, reporter, SIKKIM EXPRESS will be awarded ‘The best working journalist in Sikkim Express’ award.

This decision was taken by the Ram Patro Memorial Award selection committee which met here on May 14.

The Awards will be given away on May 24, the anniversary of Sikkim Express as a daily newspaper, at a function here at the Press Club of Sikkim.

BB Gooroong, Advisor to the Chief Minister, will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest and JB Pradhan, Ex-MLA will be the guest of honour during the occasion.

The first award carries a cash prize of Rs 5,000 and a memento, while the second award carries a cash prize of Rs 3,000 and a memento.

It was late Ram Patro, the founder-editor of SIKKIM EXPRESS who pioneered and heralded positive journalism in Sikkim, in the 1970s. SIKKIM EXPRESS is the first English newspaper from Sikkim.
