RUPEES 223.71 LAKHS FOR SIKKIM UNDER RAJIV GANDHI NATIONAL DRINKING WATER MISSION

Ministry of Rural Development has released an amount of Rs 223.71 lakhs ( Rupees two crores twenty three lakhs seventy one thousand) to Sikkim as of the first installment of funds against the provisional allocation of Rs1342.00 lakhs under the Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme (ARWSP) for 2007-08.



Fifteen percent of the fund released under the sanction is to be utilised for operation and maintenance while five percent of the fund may be spent for taking sustainability measures. States have been requested to delegate powers for the management of Rural Water Supply Scheme through the Panchayats. The funds has been released for executing and completing schemes to provide safe drinking facilities to rural habitations and schools under the centrally sponsored Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme .
