Gangtok, Nov. 15: Three minors have been raped in separate incidents in Sikkim in the past week. One of them has also been murdered.

The accused in all three cases have been arrested.

A 7-year-old was allegedly raped by a 14-year-old at Kazitar in Namchi, the South Sikkim district headquarters. The accused, a neighbour of the victim, has been arrested and booked under Section 376 of IPC. The boy will be sent to juvenile remand, police said.

The boy had raped the girl when she had gone to his house on an errand on Tuesday evening. A medical examination has confirmed the rape.

At Chalamthang near Temi in South Sikkim, a 14-year-old girl was raped by one Bhopal Tamang on November 9.

The girl along with a friend had gone to Bhopal’s house to play Bhailoni when the accused lured her to a nearby jungle and raped her. The girl had reported the incident to the local panchayat which along with her family lodged an FIR, leading to Bhopal’s arrest.
The West district police arrested Chandan Gurung, 20, yesterday from a forest near Pelling. Chandan was a domestic help for two months in the house of a 12-year-old girl whom he had raped in a cardamom bhatti and murdered.

The Class IV student had reportedly gone missing since Sunday and her body was recovered near her house two days later.

Chandan, too, had also gone into hiding from Monday. Acting on a tip-off, a police team picked him up from a forest near Lamathang and Khecheopalri.

The accused told the police that he had killed the girl after she had threatened to complain about the rape.
