Child labour survey soon

Gangtok: The Statistics, Monitoring and Economic Department (DESM) will soon start a survey of child labour in the State. According to Mr. R.W.Ringzen, Additional Secretary, Labour, department, DESM will do the survey of child labor in the State and the required fund will be provided by the State labour department.DESM is a government recognized body and its survey will be authentic. That is why it has been given the responsibility, Mr. Ringzen said.Speaking of the importance of the survey, he said, government wants to eradicate child labour in the state and to know the exact figure of the child labourer the survey is to be done. After the survey result is available, the government will build rehabilitation centers for the poor children, he said. He further said, the government is also thinking of providing other facilities like schooling, providing text books etc. to the children so that they would be developed like others.
The survey will start from the month of March in each and every hotel, industry and even at tea joints of the State. Mr. Ringzen said, once the census is completed, a child commission will be set up and perhaps Sikkim will be first to set up a child commission for eradication of child labour.
