Wildlife smugglers in police net with valuables

Gangtok, Jul 4: Around 17 kgs of Yasa Ghumpa (Catterpillar Fungus, Cordyceps sinensis) were seized by the forest officials from a gang of three international poachers, in Sikkim.
The stuff, meant to delivered outside the state, was seized at Singtam, East Sikkim, by the forest officials and police in a joint operation yesterday.

Yasa Ghumpa is famed for its aphrodisiac qualities and fetches a high value in the market. It is widely found in the higher regions of the Himalayan belt including Sikkim.

The poachers are from Nalagand and Nepal, and efforts were on to pinpoint their antecedents.

The consignment was picked up from Guru Dongmar, a glacial site of North Sikkim.
