Press Club of Sikkim will stage Andhaharu ko Ramkahani


C K ShresthaGangtok, August 04 (IST 05:30): The Press Club of Sikkim is going to stage a play to raise funds for recently set up Journalist Welfare Fund (JWF). ‘Andhaharu ko Ramkahani,” a popular play written by eminent playwright from Kalimpong, CK Shrestha, will be attend the Subha Muhurt function today to provide instruction and suggestion. Play will be directed by Hemant Giri, editor of Naya Kanchandzonga.

JWF a welfare fund for journalists launched by The Press Club of Sikkim officially during the 6th anniversary function of the Press Club.

The minister for tourism, RB Subba contributed Rs. 10,000 as a personal contribution for JWF from his side. This fund would play an important role in providing financial assistance to members of the Press Club in times of need. “This fund has been developed with the view to ensure that the local journalists meet up the financial challenges in times of emergencies like expensive medical treatments or accidents,” Bhim Rawat, the General Secretary of the Press Club said. He also said that a separate bank account would be maintained for the scheme by Press Club.

Anjan Upadhaya, editor and publisher of Hamro Prajashakti contributed Rs. 20,000 and journalist Pabitra Bhandari contributed Rs. 20,000 for JWF. Samay, a vernacular local daily contributed Rs. 5,000 and Sanjay Pradhan, journalist from Darjeeling also contributed Rs. 500 for the same.
