April 4 1965: Coronation of the last (King) Chogyal of Sikkim

Today is the 44th anniversary of the coronation of Chogyal Palden Thondup Namgyal, the last Chogyal of Sikkim. His marriage with Hope Cooke, an American gave Sikkim a world wide attention and it was for the first time on his coronation the gates for the western world was opened to Sikkim.

    This is something that i have always soughted for....looking at these pictures and reading the speech take me back to those times ..whn we could proudly proclam..yes we are a country..we have a king..we are proud of it..vested interest of some handful of people and eccentrics..have made us lose everythng..Calling them father of democracy...i would rather term them as murderers of royal family of sikkim
