ISL players to kick the ball at Golitar Singtam Ground

SINGTAM, JUNE 14: The star players of Indian Super League are set to kick the ball at Golitar Ground, Singtam for a special exhibition football match on June 18. The special program that also includes felicitation ceremony of more than two dozen star players is unique in the history of Singtam. Members of
Howlers Sporting Club, Golitar has done this unthinkable. The young team of HSC will be facing the star studded team of ISL. Gopal Baraily, MLA Central Pandam would graced the occasion as the Chief Guest that will also have other popular football faces and other sports players of Sikkim as Special Guests.
Senior pro from India team Nirmal Chettri, Sanju Pradhan, Bikash Jairu and Robin Gurung will be among the glittering stars of the day. Lhamu Tamang, a young boxer from Adarsh Gaon who had been selected for SAI camp at Bhopal for Youth Commonwealth Games in Brahamas (to be held this July) would also be felicitated on the occasion. 


Nishant Subba, President HSC said it would be a great encouragement for the youngsters to watch and talk with their idols. Our club is focused and determined on providing opportunities and platform, added Subba. Howlers Sporting Club was set up on 2012 and they have secured there place in Second Division Sikkim League. The players of HSC has been playing for SAI Namchi, Jharkhand Bokaro SAIL, Himalayan Sporting Club Gangtok and Royal Wahingdo FC, Shillong.

Januka Sharma Rizal, a third year student of English Honours from Sikkim Government College, Tadong has been selected to play the female lead role from the number of participants that took part on the auditions.

Miss Sikkim 2nd runners up 2016, Januka belongs from Pakyong. Her hobbies includes dancing, acting and modelling. She also had participated at numerous plays and acting opportunities since her school days.

RAHASYA is an under production Nepali Horror film under the banner of Kreative Eye Production and to be directed by Arjun Chapagai. It is the first horror film made in Sikkim.

Residence of Ranipool, Pooja Kadel plays a very significant role in the movie RAHASYA. She is one of the contestants of Miss Sikkim 2017 to be held this July.
Pooja Kadel is soon to be seen in a nepali film playing the title role of BARSA. She is the product of Sikkim Government College, Tadong.

Shantinagar felicitates its ten students


Singtam, June 13: Ten students of Shantinagar, Singtam were felicitated by Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti that had successfully completed their Class X and XII Board Examination on June 12, 2017. In a program held at Archigos Preparatory School, the students were passed on good wishes and blessed for their future endeavour. Students along with their parents were congratulated and offered khadas. 
Among the ten recipients Shareen Rai who had achieved 96.8 % in ICSE from St. Joseph’s Convent, Kalimpong was a District Topper. Kishore Subba from Singtam SSS was the School Topper at Commerce Stream in Class XII. The other students to receive the honour were Jayashree Rai, Razat Waiba, Neha Chettri, Diki Waiba, Sai Raj Sharma, Chewang Namgyal Bhutia (all Class X); Roshni Subba and Manisha Gurung (both Class XII). These students were from Singtam SSS, East Point SSS, Sumin Linzey SS and DPS Siliguri. KB Chettri, Principal Singtam SSS was the Chief Guest of the day while AH Khan and LN Padhan were guest of honour. The Chief Guest in his address congratulated the students and said the honour is presented to encourage everyone and at the same time it is a thought that we should never forget our society. TB Pradhan, Advisor SGSS was the host of the day. Other people to speak on the day included Krishna Chettri, President, SGSS and PP Upretti, Vice President, SGSS. Shyam Rai, father of Shareen Rai also spoked on the occasion.

Saga Dawa celebrated at Shantinagar - Singtam Gumpa


SINGTAM, JUNE 9: Saga Dawa was celebrated with enthusiasm and happiness at Karma Thuji Cheoling Gumpa at Shantinagar, Singtam. The celebration included peace rally carrying Holy Book from Shantinagar Gumpa to Adarsh Goan and back to Gumpa. Trulku Rigzin Rangzong Rangdrol (Deorali) graced the occasion by his holy blessings. 

Somnamth Poudhyal, Agriculture Minister cum Area MLA, Ugen T Gyatso, Tourism Minister and Shyam Pradhan, Parliamentary Secretary, HRDD were the Special Guests of the day followed by other distinguished guests in and around Singtam. Hundreds of devotees of all age of life took part in the procession carrying the Holy Scriptures. 

 
The devotees walked through Shantinagar Gumpa till Adarsh Gaon via Singtam bazaar and back to Gumpa. Different organizations of Singtam distributed ice-creams, milk shakes, fruit juices, waters and others for the children and seniors carrying the holy book during bazaar visit.

BAMOS visits Sakyong Chisopani JHS to celebrate WED

Singtam, June 5: A four-member team of Butterflies and Moths of Sikkim (BAMOS) Nature Conserving Society visited Sakyong Chisoapani JHS to celebrate World Environment Day today. The program was conducted in collaboration with Butterflies and Moth of Sikkim Nature Conservation Foundation (BAMOS NCF) with support from the Rufford Foundation. Plantation of different saplings and workshop on butterfly conservation was the highlight of the day. 





A day long program started with the welcome speech of Shital Pradhan, Green Teacher, SC JHS Eco Club. Thereafter Satish Chandra Pradhan, Headmaster of the school addressing the gathered audience of guests, school staff and students spoked about the importance of biodiversity and its presence for human survival. Dr. Sanjog Rai, member of BAMOS interacted with the students and informed them about the significance of butterfly and other insects for our ecology. Rai further said the theme of BAMOS for this year World Environment Day was Butterfly Conservation. 

Different varieties of saplings were planted around the school premises by the four Houses of the school (Orchid, Jasmine, Lily and Daffodils) along with their respective House Masters. Those saplings included ‘Host and Nectar plants of butterflies’. The team of BAMOS also took part in the plantation and they even gifted flower seeds to the school. They presented posters of butterflies published by BAMOS to the School Headmaster. At the end of the day a workshop was conducted by Dr. Sanjog Rai, Shailendra Dewan, Prem Chettri and Nawang G Bhutia for the students of senior classes with pictorial presentation through laptop.
