Shantinagar celebrates Nepali Bhasa Diwas

SINGTAM, AUGUST: Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti celebrated Nepali Bhasa Diwas with a plantation drive, poetry and talks on the development of the Nepali language. The celebration was organised in two phases, the morning phase had Ashoka saplings being planted around the Badminton Court, near Rani Khola Walkway, Shantinagar. More than two dozen saplings were planted by the members of the Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti. Krishna Chettri, President of SGSS led the plantation drive. Those saplings were gifted by Madan Tamang, Singtam.

The second phase program was held at the premises of LN Pradhan (Chief Advisor, SGSS)’s residence at Shantinagar including poetry recitation and talks on the development of the Nepali language. Mohan Pradhan ‘Neeraj’, a noted Nepali literary writer from Singtam was the Chief Guest of the day-long program. Mahesh Dahal ‘Raley’, a poet from Chisopani, Singtam was the Guest of Honour. Other guests to present on the occasion included CP Pradhan, Praja Pradhan, Kamal Gurung, HN Sharma, LP Chettri, KB Sundas and others.
 
Lokesh Mukhia (Darjeeling), Surya Kharel and Nandu Dutraj (both from Bardang), Mahesh Dahal (Chisopani) and Shital Pradhan (Shantinagar) recited poems that were well appreciated by the gathered crowds. Nishant Dulal spoke about the development of the Nepali language movement. Mohan Pradhan Neeraj, Mahesh Dahal and Nandu Dutraj were presented a memento by the President, SGSS

Speaking on the occasion, Neeraj appreciated the efforts of Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti in organizing such an important event. He further said literature these days are limited to four corners of a room. He urged the Samiti to organize a Kavi Gosti and provide a platform for all those hidden and long-lost poets. PP Upretti, Advisor, SGSS was the host of the program while TB Pradhan, Advisor, SGSS gave the vote of thanks.
