The
Cenral Executive Committee of Sikkim Newar Guthi and Indra Jatra
Celebration Committee 2018 called on the Honourable Chief Minister of
Sikkim Shri Pawan Kumar Chamling at Samman Bhawan, Gangtok on September
1, 2018. They extended invitation to the Chief Minister to the
penultimate function of Indra Jatra 2108 in Mannan Bhawan on 23rd September, 2018. The Chief Minister has accepted the invitation.
Indra
Jatra is a 8 days long event celebrated by Newars at Kathmandu. But in
Sikkim the event is concentrated only on one day which coincides with
the worshiping of Mata Kumari, a living goddess. This year the day falls
on September 23rd,
2018. However this year, other events like Newar Folk Dance
Competition, Ethno Achar Making Competition, Talent Hunt Competition,
Exhibition of Painting and Photography will precede the main event of
traditional puja of goddess Kumari. These programs are slated to be held
on September 21st and 22nd , 2018 at MG Marg and Titanic Park making it a three day event w.e.f. 21.09.2018 to 23.09.2018
