Singtam prepares for its first Table Tennis tournament

SINGTAM, MARCH 18: The second coordination meeting of the 1^st TR Rana Memorial Table Tennis Championship was held on March 16, 2021. CL Rai (Advisor), Sundar Rai (President), Krishna Chettri (Vice President), Jinod Tamang (Joint Secretary), Prital Shilal and Zarina Rana (Technical team) and other members of the adhoc committee of 1^ST TR Rana Memorial Table Tennis Championship were present on the occasion. With this event, the town of Singtam makes its debut in organizing a state level table tennis tournament.

The two days state level table tennis tournament would be conducted at Indoor Sport Complex, Lal Bazaar, Singtam, East Sikkim on April 23 & 24, 2021. Following events shall be held: U-12 Boys/Girls (Cadet), U-14 Boys/Girls (Sub - Junior), U-17 Boys/Girls (Junior), Open Men’s & Women’s (18 – 39 years) and Veteran Men’s & Women’s (above 40s). All the trophies and cash prizes of the event shall be sponsored by Mrs. Menuka Rana, Sang Khola, East Sikkim. The registration forms shall be released on social media very soon. Players from all the districts shall be participating, reads the press release.

Sikkim Mahinda Thero: A national hero of Sri Lanka

JANHA BAGCHA TEESTA RANGIT

This was a national song of Sikkim sung in the Nepali language during the monarchy system. During the merger with India, the song got banned and later re-released. Two words on the 8th para, which earlier said 'Rajah rah Rani,' were replaced with "Janmah bhumi." This song was dedicated to the King and Queen of Sikkim. The song lyrics were penned by Sanu Lama, and the music was composed by Dushyant Lama. The song was first sung on the birth anniversary of Chogyal Palden Thondup Namgyal on April 4, 1970, at Gangtok by Aruna Lama, Dawa Lama, and Manikamal Chettri. Pandam Garhi and its surmise

Never in the pages of a history book do we come across its talk about when it was built or how it was constructed at the top of the hill? Over the years, many theories have evolved regarding its origin. Some theorists associate the fort with some Lepcha legends, while few disagree with it and have their own adage. They make us believe one of the Chogyals constructed it to stop the approaching Bhutanese army from entering Sikkim.
