Riverine Elementary School visits Rongli PHC, SDM Office and Post Office

Singtam, October 13: Riverine Elementary School, Rongli organised an educational tour for students from class two to class seven on October 12.

They visited different government offices in and around Rongli to get familiar with their individual works. The students accompanied with teachers interacted with the officials at the respective offices. The places of visit included Rongli PHC, SDM Office and Post Office. 

 
Dr. Tshewang Sherpa was present at the Rongli PHC Hospital, he greeted the students and teachers. He talked about the role of health care and the importance of a hospital. Mr. Raju Pradhan, hospital staff briefed about the function of different departments.

There-after SDM Office, Rongli was visited. AB Gurung, SDM briefed about different functionaries of his office building. Students were allowed to visit different offices under SDM.

The visiting school then went to Post Office of Rongli bazaar and learned about how the letters and other materials are posted. Staffs of the office briefed about the function of a post office. 

The day long tour was organised by Sita Sharma, teacher RES and accompanied by Bikki Rai, Principal, Bimla Giri and Indira Pradhan, teachers.

Sikkim Mahinda Thero: A national hero of Sri Lanka

Sikkim Mahinda Thero BY SHITAL PRADHAN I first heard about S Mahinda Thero in 2005 while in Kolkata when I was asked by one of the stamp dealers whether I was interested in a 20 paisa stamp of S Mahinda Thero issued by the Sri Lankan Postal Department in the early 1970s. I collected philatelic items on Buddhism, but I never understood who he was talking about. He told me, as I was from Sikkim, I might be interested to know more about the person, and he went on to add it was Sikkim Mahinda Thero, a Buddhist monk who is regarded as a national hero, a famous poet in the Sinhalese language whose poetry promoted patriotism and the revival of Buddhism to this part of the Island. He promised to send me the stamp of S Mahinda Thero from Colombo through the mail, but I have never heard from him since then.
