GOVERNOR’S MEDAL AWARDED TO OUTSTANDING NCC CADETS

 PRESS RELEASE

In a glittering investiture ceremony, Governors Medal were awarded by Hon’ble Governor of Sikkim Shri Ganga Prasad to 36 outstanding NCC Cadets from the state of Sikkim at Chintan Bhawan on 26 Nov 2020. Hon’ble CM Mr. P.S. Tamang , Minister of Education, Sports & Youth Affairs Shri Kunga Nima Lepcha , Chief Secretary Mr. S.C.Gupta IAS, Department of Education Additional Chief Secretary Mr. GP Upadhyaya IAS, COs of 1,3 & 4 Sikkim Bns NCC  along with other distinguished guests from Dept of Education, Principals, Associate NCC Officers and NCC Cadets from various NCC affiliated Schools and Colleges were in attendance. 


A total of 36 Cadets from NCC belonging to all four districts of Sikkim were presented the medals for their outstanding achievements at both National and State level events in the year 2019 - 20. Three categories of medals were awarded by the Hon’ble Governor i.e 18 Gold, 10 Silver and 08 Bronze medals. Each medal had a Certificate and a Cash award along with it.

Gold medals were awarded to the NCC cadets participating at national level events and who represented the Directorate team in Republic Day Camp and Thal Sainik Camp at New Delhi. It had a cash award of Rs.5,000. Silver medals were awarded to the cadets who presented ceremonial salutes to the Hon’ble Governor and the Hon’ble Chief Minister and for commanding the contingent in State–level Republic Day and Independence Day parade. It carried a cash award of Rs.3,000. Bronze medals were awarded to cadets who excelled in other NCC activities and had a cash award of Rs.2,000.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Mr G.P. Upadhyaya, Additional Chief Secretary,  Education department, said the event was a historic moment for the tiny Himalayan State as it is being organised for the fourth time. He expressed his gratitude and accorded a warm welcome to the Hon’ble Governor, Hon’ble Chief Minister and Minister for Education, Sports and Youth affairs and other dignitaries present.

NCC inculcates discipline, a sense of responsibility and dedication towards the nation amongst the Cadets which further leads to Nation building. It is the largest Uniformed Youth Organisation in the Country which actively participates in all Social and Community development activities initiated both by the Central and the State Governments .In addition, Cadets from all States and Union Territories participate at the Republic Day Camp and Thal Sainik Camp at New Delhi every year, wherein they depict their rich traditions and culture thus showcasing  their state. NCC also provides a wide range of opportunities and unique experiences to develop leadership qualities and life skills.

SICA Organises Umpire Level ‘O’ Course 2020-21

Sikkim Cricket Association (SICA) has organised a five-day Umpire Level ‘O’ Course at Sikkim Cricket Ground, Rangpo. Two experienced faculties – Mr Satrajit Lahiri (Ranji Panel Umpire, BCCI LVL – C Coach) and Mr Somnath Jha (Ranji Panel Umpire, BCCI LVL – B Coach) will be conducting the course.


From all four districts of Sikkim, the total 28 candidates are attending the course of which there are eight female candidates and twenty male candidates. The course will be conducted from 25th to 29th November 2020.

Both the faculties were welcomed by Tshewang Lama (Hony Secretary) and Karma Sonam Lhendup (Joint Secretary) of SICA. During the welcome speech, the Secretary briefed participants about cricket Umpire as a career and its challenges and wished them luck. Both faculties’ thanked the President, Secretary and SICA for inviting them for Umpires training programme and briefed the participants about the importance of umpire for the development of cricket in State. Both the faculties were welcomed by Tshewang Lama (Hony Secretary) and Karma Sonam Lhendup (Joint Secretary) of SICA. During the welcome speech, the Secretary briefed participants about cricket Umpire as a career and its challenges and wished them luck. Both faculties’ thanked the President, Secretary and SICA for inviting them for Umpires training programme and briefed the participants about the importance of umpire for the development of cricket in State. 


During the course, the faculties will cover all the aspects of umpiring, beginning with the thorough explanation of updated Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) Cricket Laws. In the first day, the participants were taught pre-match duties of umpires, crease markings & measurements, the position of umpire – static and dynamic.

Alpine Sporting Club lifts men’s Khangchendzonga Shield 2020 cricket tournament

Singtam, November 22: Alpine Sporting Club defeated their rival Black Eagle Sikkim Armed Police by a margin of 125 runs to lift the men’s Khangchendzonga Shield 2020 cricket tournament. More than 60 teams had participated at their prestigious tournament organised by Sikkim Cricket Association.

PS Tamang, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim was the Chief Guest of the day. Other guests included Kunga Nima Bhutia, Hon’ble Minister Sports & Youth Affairs, Education, LR & DM, and Law & Parliamentary Affairs Dept., Karma Loday Bhutia Hon'ble Minister Forest and Environment, Science & Technology Departments, Dr. MK Sharma, Hon’ble Health Minister and others. 

PS Tamang, Chief Minister of Sikkim was felicitated by the Sikkim Cricket Association on the ocassion. 




Bating first Alpine Sporting Club had a perfect opening wicket partnership of 73 runs between Nilesh Lamichaney (Captain) and Arun Chettri. Lamichaney went on to score his back to back half century. He scored 56 while Chettri added 29 runs to his credit. Another important inning building partnership came in the middle when Adiv Tamang and Afzal Hussain shared 57 runs for the 5th wicket. Adiv Tamang (34) and Afzal Hussain (32) took the score to 200 for the loss of five wickets in 30 overs. Black Eagle Sikkim Armed Police gave 40 runs as extra. Sonam Bhutia and Mendup Bhutia bagged two wickets each while Palzor Tamang took one wicket.



The team of Black Eagle (SAP) was unmatched to the bowling strength of Alpine Sporting Club. Anurodhan Pradhan had a magical spell of four wickets just giving seven runs from his 5 overs. Pacer MD Ronak scalped three wickets in his 5 overs at the cost of 14 runs, two wickets were shared by Ingsho Limboo and Ajay Pradhan. One player got run-out. The whole team got out with the total of 76 on the scoreboard. Two players got to score double figures where the highest run recorded was 24 as extra conceded by Alpine Sporting Club. Nilesh Lamichaney was declared Player of the Match for his captain knock.

Autographs of Team Pandim and Team Kabru



 

Team Pandim lifts women’s Khangchendzonga Shield 2020 cricket tournament

Singtam, November 21: Team Pandim defeated Team Kabru by 14 runs to lift the women’s Khangchendzonga Shield 2020 cricket tournament. This was the first women cricket tournament in the state of Sikkim and organised by Sikkim Cricket Association. 


Team Pandim batting first scored 115 for the loss of three wickets in their 20 overs. Samayita Roy Prodhan scored 59 runs with 11 fours in her innings; ably supported by Songkit Lhamoo Lepcha and Tabita Subba who added 16 and 14 runs respectively.  The highlight of the Pandim inning included a 75 run partnership in 74 balls between Songkit Lhamoo Lepcha, Captain and Samayita Roy Prodhan.  Purni Maya Gurung took two wickets for 14 runs from her four overs. Dikcha Gurung took the other wicket.


Chasing the total, Team Kabru could only manage 91 runs from their 20 overs loosing eight wickets. Only Nandita Das and Ankita Karki could make double figures (21 & 25). Shristi Rai scalped two wickets giving away 11 runs in her four overs. Yudenmit Lepcha, Mariam Subba and Tika Devi Newar shared a wicket each while three of the Team Kabru batswomen were run-out. Samayita Roy Prodhan was declared Player of the Match for her knock of 59 valuable runs.


Mrs. Sarda Tamang, wife of Shri PS Tamang, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Sikkim was the Chief Guest of the day. The other guests included Ms. Pabitra Bhandari and others.  Lobzang G Tenzing, President, SICA in his speech congratulated the teams for their participation and shared about providing opportunities in days to come.

Four teams with over 50 women players had participated in the tournament that started with league matches. The four teams were – Pandim, Kabru, Simvo and Sinolchu.

2. Player of the Tournament U19: Yudenmit Lepcha (Pandim).
3. Emerging Player: Diksha Gurung (Pandim).
4. Highest Wicket Taker: Sunita Rai (Siniolchu).
5. Highest Run Scorer: Tshering Ongmu Lepcha (Siniolchu).
6. Player of the Match: Samayita Roy Pradhan (Pandim).
