Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary is a nature park in the Indian state of Sikkim. It has forty species of rhododendron trees. It is located in the Yumthang Valley of Flowers north of Lachung in North Sikkim district. Bird species found in the park include Wood snipe and Hoary-throated barwing. Today I happened to cross the Rangchang Khola Bridge, the very steel bridge that is in news after its collapse few weeks back. More of a first time happening Bridge collapse in Sikkim, I was taken aback when I heard the news for the very first time. I was still at Dalapchand when the incident happened and I received a call from Bajgain daju wanting me to find information about the incident. When I came across the debris of the ill-fated steel bridge I wasn’t able to believe that this was the very bridge that I had walked through when I was on the visit to Mangan and its surroundings during Earthquake relief work. I still remember clicking photographs of the panoramic beauty of the valley from the bridge. More than ten people had died when a concrete steel bridge collapsed over Rangchang khola (river) around 1.15 pm in North Sikkim. It was my good fortune to have visited the Forest Department Office at Deorali this summer and met officials out there. I shall remain appreciative of Ongden Daju (RO) for an occasion when I bring in contact with higher officials of the Forest Department. Apart from the reason for my presence in the Forest Department Office, I kept in mind that I would have some valuable information about Shapi, a topic that has been hovering around with me for some time now.  I was very pleased with the excitement on people’s faces when they went through a couple of photographs and a video of Shapi from the Schaefer Expedition.
