One-roomed School building of Upper Pachak Primary School inaugurated

 From the office of the Joint Director Sub-Divisional Education Office Rangpo Pakyong District 

Pakyong, August 25: Shri K B Chettri -Joint Director, Rangpo Subdivision Education Department inaugurated the newly constructed, one-roomed School Building of Upper Pachak Pry. School today, which was constructed by the SMC and by Community participation to accommodate the students of kindergarten.

In order to thank those who have contributed physically and financially, the School has organised a short thanksgiving program.

Shri K B Chettri addressed the gatherings and also extended thanks to Shri Bhopal Rai, the School land donor and thanked all the members of SMC and the public as well for their generous contribution to constructing the school building.

Headmaster Shri N P Sapkota presented the school report and students performed dance, rhymes etc.

Also present in the program were Ward Panchayat -Ms. Pem Doma Sherpa, retired Joint Director Sports- Shri C.L.Rai, Shri Dawa Sherpa (Retired Police Officer), AEO BAC Duga Shri Sunder Kumar Rai, SMC, Parents, teachers and the school students.

Sçhool fraternity extended gratitude to the community for their contribution to the development of the school.

Rongli celebrates Bhimsen Jatra

20.08.2022, Rongli:  Bhimsen Jatra was organised at Rongli, Chujachen Constituency by Shri Bhimsen Maharaj Mandir Sangrakhshan Samiti at Rongli Bazaar, Pakyong District in association with various Newar Guthi Sakha's of Chujachen Constituency with great zeal and enthusiasm. Madam HCM Smt. Sarda Golay graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.


Present on the occasion as special guests were Advisor to CM Shri Rohit Raj Maharaj, Chairperson  Power Dept. Smt Mingma Lamu Bhutia, Chairperson Labour Dept. Smt. Ganga Prasai, Chairperson Film Board Smt. Pooja Sharma, Chairperson, Other Backward Classes Welfare Board Shri Nirpath Gurung, Chairman NHPC Shri Prashant Pradhan, SKM Party Vice-President cum Incharge Chujachen Constituency Shri Damber Pradhan, Area MLA Shri K.B.Rai, Ex-MLA Shri Bikram Pradhan, Zilla Adhyaksh Shri Samsher Bakhim, Ex MLA Shri Mohan Gurung, Executive members of Sikkim Newar Guthi led by President Shri Nirmal Kr. Pradhan, Executives and members of different Sakhas and the public from in and around Rongli.

The organising committee welcomed the chief guest and other guests with Traditional Newa Music Dhimey Baja. Pujas and rituals started in the Mandir in the morning by Gurju Alankar Shakya and Madam HCM Smt Sarda Golay with other guests also participated in the Puja and visited the mandir and also took part in the Chariot Procession. 


Shri Praveen Pradhan, President, Shri Bhimshen Maharaj Mandir Sangrakshan Samiti welcomed the dignitaries and thanked Madam HCM Smt. Sarda Golay for accepting the invitation and gracing the occasion, he also thanked all Sakha in Chujachen Constituency for coming together to make the event successfully.

Shri Rudhra Narsing Sakya, Patron of the organising committee gave the history of Shri Bhimshem Mandir where he mentioned the Ganesh Shivalaya was built in the year 1900 wherein Bhimsen Mandir was established in the same compound 2 years later in 1902, Later on, Boudha Bihar Mandir was also built in the year 1956 and the compound has been hosting Bhimsen Puja since many years in Rongli. 


Madam HCM Smt. Sarda Golay thanked the organising committee for inviting her to the puja and as it was also Nepali Bhasa Diwas she congratulated and provided best wishes to all Nepali-speaking people around the world. She emphasized the importance of protecting our traditional culture and appreciated the work of the present Govt. under the efficient leadership of Hon’ble CM Shri Prem Singh Tamang for various initiatives and activities for the same.

Shri Rohit Raj Maharaj in his speech mentioned Nepali Bhasa Diwas and Bhimsen Jatra being celebrated on the same day this time and how much familiar he is with Newar culture and appreciated the work of committee members in preserving the culture through such celebration and rituals for many years. 

 

Shri Bijay Sakya and Shri Rabindra Maharjan were provided khada arpan from the hand of the Chief Guest for donating Chattra (Shade) for the statue of Shri Bhimsen Maharaj.

Various Newar cultural dances were performed by the students and members of sakhas around Rongli. Lakhey Dance with Jhylincha was the show stealer. Shri Bhimsen Maharaj Mandir Sangrakhshan Samiti thanked everyone for their support to make the event a grand success and provided their best wishes to the people of Sikkim. 

A frame of Shri Bhimsen Maharaj was given as a token of love to the chief guest and other guests present on the occasion. The vote of thanks was given by Shri Bhim Kr. Pradhan General Secretary of the organising committee. Miss Smriti Pradhan and, Shri Anup Pradhan were the MCs for the day.

He had been associated with Sikkim Express, The Telegraph, Doordarshan and All India Radio. Presently, he is the Founder and Editor-in-chief of the Sikkim Chronicle, one of the popular online digital news platforms in Sikkim.

Chungthang celebrates 76th I’Day

15.08.22: 76th Independence day was celebrated at Chungthang Sub Division, North Sikkim in a grand manner with joy and enthusiasm. The programme was graced by Shri YT Lepcha, MLA, Gangtok. The Chief Guest unfurled the national tricolour flag, thereafter the march1-past was performed by the ITBT Chungthang, scouts and students of Tasa Tengay SSS and Mount English school. 


Shri Hem Sagar Kaflay, ADC (Dev.) Chungthang gave a welcome speech. The Governor's message was delivered by Shri Kiran Thatal, SDM Chungthang while the HCM’s message was delivered by Shri TR Chettri, BDO Chungthang. Forest Department initiated an organic national flag model distributed to all the guests. 


Thereupon different cultural events were performed by the schools under Chungthang Sub Division while the main attraction of the day-long event was the final of the Tasa Tengay Memorial Football Tournament. 



Chungthang XI defeated Paigong XI with four goals to one. Prior to the start of the match, a one-minute silence was observed on the passing away of Lt. Tasa Tengay Lepcha, former MLA. The program ended with the prize distribution and a vote of thanks by Shri Pravin Gautam, RO/AD.

Shantinagar celebrates 76th Independence Day

August 15, Singtam: Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti celebrated 76th Independence Day with joy and enthusiasm. The felicitation program, veteran doubles badminton exhibition match, culture and sports activities were the highlight of the day.


Shyam Pradhan, AD, Food and Civil Supply Department, Singtam was the chief guest of the day. Head Lobella, Karma Thujee Monastery, Shantinagar, Singtam was the guest of honour. Others included TB Pradhan, Advisor, SGSS, Nandu Dutraj, senior journalist and members of Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti

Tinku Adhikari, President of Sikkim Motor Transport Workers Association (SMTWA), and Suresh K Lama, Social Worker were felicitated for their contribution to society. Archigos Preparatory Academy, Shantinagar was also presented a memento for winning State Level Award under Swachh Vidhyalaya Puraskar 2021-22.

Suresh K Lama and Dinesh Chettri (Badminton Club of Majhitar) won the veteran doubles badminton exhibition match defeating their opponent Nandu Dutraj and Krishna Chettri. Both were presented with winners and runner-up trophies and certificates. 



Rinchen Sherpa, Sujal Sunar, Sushmita Pradhan, Ayushman Chettri and Rina Chettri, members of SGSS who had passed out class xii examination were congratulated and awarded certificates. Similarly, Ishmita Pradhan, Upashana Chettri and Prem Rai who had passed out class x examination were also presented with certificates from the hand of the guests. 



Krishna Chettri, President, SGSS in his welcome speech informed the gathered crowd on the importance of the days, Chettri also spoke about the role of SGSS in the development of society. We are committed to the growth of our samaj, he added.

Musical Chair, Passing the ballon, passing the ball, spoon marble balancing was enjoyed by the kids present on the occasion. 



Shyam Rai, the chief guest speaking on the occasion said, every society in and around Singtam should come forward to fight against the drug abuse that is affecting society. He congratulated each one on the occasion of Independence day.  Doma D Sharma was the host of the day while Suman Sunar gave the vote of thanks.

Jighu Saa, an annual magazine of Singtam Sakha Guthi officially released

12.08.22: Jighu Saa, an annual magazine of Newa Bhay Bownekykuthi, Singtam Sakha Guthi was officially released at the Kwati Punhi Festival at Nepali Dharalsala, Singtam. Probably, one of the first annual magazines of a Sakha Guthi in Sikkim.

 


The magazine documents all the activities carried out by the organisation in the last four years. Starting the journey with classes for Newar language speaking and learning, traditional dance and recipe cooking class to supporting community causes like blood donation, green mission, assistance for fire victims, financial support to Newar Bhawan, short films and natural calamities to extending Meritorious Educational Grant to the members and finally establishing a newar mandir, are all part of the publication.

Singtam Sakha Guthi celebrates Kwati Punhi; felicitates International Medalist Bhawika Pradhan

12.08.22, Singtam: Members of Newa Bhay Bowneykuthi, Singtam Sakha Guthi observed the Kwati Punhi Festival at Nepali Dharalsala, Singtam. Highlights of the festival celebration included launching the organisation's magazine, felicitation program and the special newar dish Kwati served to all the invited audiences.

 





The Chief Guest, Shyam Kumar Rai, Assistant Director, Government Food Department, Singtam along with Nirmal Pradhan, President, Sikkim Newar Guthi and other distinguished guests released Jhigu Saa, the annual magazine of Newa Bhay Bowneykuthi. The activities of NBB, Singtam Sakha Guthi since its formation in December 2018 were published.

The other guests present in the celebration included Ujal Pandey (MEO Singtam Nagar Panchayat), Kishore Chettri, Bindhya Subba and Yad Kumari Bishwakarma (all  Councillors), Ganesh Pradhan (Food Inspector, Singtam), Sundar Rai (AEO Duga BAC), Prashant Pradhan (Chairman NHPC), Suresh Kr. Pradhan (Principal Singtam SSS), PB Subba (HM, Sakyong Chisopani JHS), MK Pradhan, Advisor, SNG,  Dr Sushen Pradhan, (General Secretary, Sikkim Newar Guthi), Raj Pradhan (GS IJC), Binita Pradhan (CEC, SNG), IK Pradhan, (CEC SNG), MK Pradhan, (Exam Officer, SSTRB), Tinku Adhikari (President Singtam Motor Transport Welfare Drivers Association) and members of Sikkim Newar Guthi and Newa Bhay Bowneykuthi.

Karna Kumari Pradhan, a resident of Gangtok and her family had donated land for the construction of the Newar Mandir at Lower Tinek near Singtam. She was honoured with a citation for her noble gesture. Bhawika Pradhan, a Physique Model who had won the third position in the recently held 54th Asian Body Building and Physique Sports Championship was congratulated and presented with a memento. The Sister duo of Nisha Pradhan and Sarita Pradhan from Burung, near Singtam were also presented with a memento for the emerging entrepreneurs.

Anmol Pradhan sang a newar song while Ishmita Pradhan and Sushmita Pradhan presented a newar dance performance appreciated by the gathered audience. Dilu Pradhan readout her poem dedicated to Newars.

‘Kwa’ meaning Hot and ‘ti’ meaning soup were explained by DK Pradhan, a member of NBB, Singtam in his speech. He said Kwati is a hot soup made of nine sprouting beans, benefit to better health and a tradition carried out in the newar culture for ages.

Gopal Pradhan, President, Newa Bhay Bowneykuthi speaking on the occasion shared the journey of the organisation of four years. Nirmal Pradhan, President Sikkim Newar Guthi congratulated the efforts of NBB, Singtam Sakha for organising the event. Every Newar celebrates Kwati Punhi at their home to bring the community celebration under one roof is an achievement, said Nirmal Pradhan. Shyam Rai, the chief guest also admired the endeavour of the Newa Bhay Bowneykuthi for inviting different communities to celebrate the occasion. Prakash Kazi Sakya was the host of the day while Shital Pradhan was the host for the Mementoes presentation.

REPORT ON TIRANGA RELAY RALLY ORGANISED WITHIN DUGA BLOCK

All schools under Duga BAC have participated in the Relay Rally organised by every three Clusters under Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. A rally was flagged off by Ms Pramila Chettri (Panchayat Vice President of Sumin Lingchey GPU) More than 500 Students along with Teachers, Panchayat Members, HM of Sumin Lingchey SS, SMC of Sumin Lingchey SS, East Point SSS, Mount Zion Kidzee, Sunder Kumar Rai AEO and Shri K B Chettri, Joint Director (SDEO, Rangpo) participated in the rally with great enthusiasm to make it a grand success. The rally ended at ATTC Bordang.


Another rally was started from Majhitar SS and has been joined by Divya Jyoti Pvt. school and ended at Sunder Resort Majhitar. More than 100 students, teachers, SMC Members, School heads, and panchayat members participated in the rally along with Shri Deepak Rai, Assistant Director of Education Dept. Duga BAC).     



Likewise, another rally was organised by Rangpo Cluster from IBM Petrol Pump(Rangpo) wherein more than 500 students and teachers of Rangpo SSS, Rangpo Chanatar SS, and Little Bells PVT. School, Tiny Tots Pvt. School, Hansraj Academy have started the rally from their respective schools and gathered at Rangpo Goli Ground from where they dispersed for their respective schools.


The rally was flagged off by President, Rangpo Nagar Panchayat and joined by the members of Rangpo Nagar Panchayat,  SDM (Rangpo), Municipal Executive Officer (Rangpo), PI (Rangpo Police Station), SMC members of different schools and School heads with Shri Krishna Kumar Sharma, Deputy Director (SDEO, Rangpo) and officials from Duga Block office.  Similarly, another rally was organised wherein Zitlang JHS, Samsing Suntalay PS, Cheuribotay JHS reached Duga SS and Duga SS went up to Padamchey Fatak and returned back.


Meanwhile, the Sunrise Academy and Padma Kumari have also joined the rally. In another rally students and teachers of Singlebong JHS set off from their school and reached Syaplay SS who then took over the rally and reached Sakhukhani PS and rallied along the village where Panchayat Members and SMC members have taken part along with school Heads. 

Simultaneously, another rally was organised by Central Pendam Cluster from School Gate and took towards the Karmithang village jointly with Central Point Academy where SMC members, Panchayat members, and block officials(Duga) participated in the rally along with more than 150 students and teachers. 

Concurrently, Lower Sumin SS, Upper Sumin SS, Kameray JHS, Upper Pachak PS, Budang PS, Sajong JHS, and Khanigaon PS have also organised Flag rallies where the Panchayat members, SMC members and School Heads participated in the students and teachers. To make the program safe and successful, especially along the National Highway and marketplaces, the involvement of police personnel and Health workers have been indispensable. All the rallies have ended up successfully.

Mobin Rai (Football) : Shital Pradhan's Autograph Collection


Mobin Rai is an Indian footballer from Sikkim, he has captained the Sikkim team at the Santosh Trophy and Fateh Hyderabad AFC in I-League.

Rai had shown his football skills in popular national football tournaments including I-League, Durand Cup, and IFA Shield. One of the few players from Sikkim to have won the Sikkim Governor's Gold Cup playing for Mohammedan Sporting Club, Kolkata.

Azadi Ka Amrit Mahatsav activity under Duga BAC

06.08.22: A Block Cum Sub-Divisional Level Competition, under AZADI KA AMRIT MAHOTSAV to commemorate the 75th glorious year of India's Independence, was held at BAC Duga, Rangpo Sub-Division of Pakyong District. The program was chaired by Shri K B Chettri Joint Director, Sub-Divisional Education Office, Rangpo. 



The winner students from Nine schools of three clusters participated in the block level competition in the following, Patriotic Song, Quiz, self-composed Poem recitation, Essay Writing, Painting and Elocution. Besides the participants, the Escort teachers, Heads of several Schools, SMC members, incumbents of the Sub-Divisional Education Office and Block Education office, Officials & Staff of other Departments of Duga BAC also witnessed the Competition. 



Shri Durga Silal, Assistant Director (RDD BAC Duga), Smt. Tsheten D. Bhutia, Headmistress (Pachak Secondary School) and Shri Navin Mishra, Headmaster (Sumin Mangthang JHS) were the judges for the competitions. Shri Dipak Rai AD, Shri SK Rai, (AEO, Duga), Shri Adip Chettri, Shri CM Ghimirey (CRC, Duga), Shri Padam Bdr. Pradhan (MIS Coordinator), Shri Yogesh Gurung(Data Entry Operator), Shri Nilam Pradhan and Shri Somnath Dulal, and Smt Pratima Subba have actively coordinated and conducted the event to make the program successful. The winners of today's competition would contest in the District Level Competition. 

The list of programmes and the respective winners are as follows: Patriotic Song Competition (Rangpo Senior Secondary School), Poem competition (Duga Secondary School), Quiz Competition (Lower Sumin Secondary School), Elocution (Zitlang Junior High School), Painting Competition (Lower Sumin Secondary School), Essay writing Competition (TLNSSS Central Pendam).

International level floor mat inaugurated at Singtam Indoor Badminton Court

05.08.22: Suresh Tamang, President, Singtam Nagar Panchayat inaugurated the floor mat of Badminton Court at Indoor Sports Complex, Singtam. Other distinguished guests to attend the event included Mukesh Agarwal and Kishore Chettri (Councillors, SNP), Tinku Adhikari (President, Singtam Motor Transport Welfare Drivers Association), Ganesh Pradhan (Food Sub Inspector), LN Pradhan (President, SGREWA, Singtam), Gupta Subba, Madan Tamang and members of Singtam Badminton Club.


A cake was cut to celebrate the event. Speaking on the occasion, Dr JB Gurung, President, Singtam Badminton Club thanked the advisors of the organisation for all their support in the upgradation of the badminton court. Gurung said that SBC had successfully hosted state level badminton tournament and in future, we are preparing to invite players from Siliguri and Nepal. He further said the badminton court is dedicated to the young generation of Singtam and everyone should take benefit from it. 



Suresh Tamang on the behalf of Singtam Nagar Panchayat congratulated the efforts of the Singtam Badminton Association in coming up with the standard of their badminton court. SBC in a short time had been able to make a mark in the state, he said. Players from SBC who had participated in the Gangtok Badminton Tournament were presented was presented with certificates. 



Singtam Badminton Club was set up in 2019 and has more than 110 members in its association. The club had recently organised a successful Summer Badminton Camp for the school-going kids that had participants of twenty-two aspiring players.

Komal Gurung (Dance Choreographer) : Shital Pradhan's Autograph Collection

Komal Gurung is a proprietor and founder of Tapashree Dance and Music Academy. She completed three years of course in Indian Classical Dance forms, specializing in Bharat Natyam from Bharatiya Natya Kalalaya, Kolkata. Her academy is affiliated with Prayag Sangeet Samiti Allahabad.

She had been to talk shows on the National Radio Channel of Nepal and judged various events at the state and national levels. Her dance studio has represented Sikkim on numerous platforms. She provides free classes to children in Balniketan Orphanage.

Singtam Badminton Club organizes badminton derby

01.08.22: One-day friendly, derby badminton matches were played between the players of Singtam Badminton Club, Rongli Badminton Association and Bermoik Badminton Association.

The tournament was organised by Singtam Badminton Association to commemorate the 75th Years of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav and held at Indoor Sports Complex, Singtam. Shri Damber Pradhan, Incharge of Chujachen Constituency was the Chief Guest of the day. Pradhan himself also participated in the derby as a player.


Forty badminton players participated in the 26 matches that were played throughout the day. Players from Rongli won two of the three events held on the day. Bikram Pradhan and Choden Bhutia (RBA) defeated Amrita Gurung and Jigdel Sherpa (RBA) for the mixed doubles title. The players from Rongli, Amrita Gurung and Choden Bhutia outplayed their rivals from Singtam, Sonu Rai and Hritika Bhattarai in the women’s doubles final. 

Lalit Pradhan and Laxuman Gajmer (SBA) won against Yogesh Gurung and Pintu Prasad (SBA), with Yogesh Gurung getting hurt, and the umpire giving the call off to win the men’s doubles final. Singtam Badminton Association would like to congratulate all the players for making the event successful.

Crossite Philately Club opened at Holy Cross School

01.08.22, Singtam: A philately club with the name ‘Crossite’ was officially opened at Holy Cross School, Tadong on July 30, to promote stamp collection among students. Twenty students had enrolled their names on this hobby club. Sr. Florin Mary Murmu and Mukesh Kumar Jha would be the President and Secretary of the club.

A philatelic talk, workshop and stamp exhibition were held on the occasion. The event was organised by the Department of Post, Government of India, Sikkim State in association with the Sikkim Philatelic and Numismatic Society (SPNS). Samir Pradhan, Marketing Head, Gangtok Post Office presented stamps stationeries to the new stamp collectors. He also informed the students about different scholarships and benefits as stamp club members. 

Aastha Rai, a philatelic scholar pursuing PhD in Sikkim Postal History spoke about the development of the postal system in Sikkim. 

Ganesh Pradhan, President SPNS presented a congratulation souvenir to Sr. Florin Mary Murmu. Speaking on the occasion, Pradhan said SPNS as a society had been working towards the promotion of philately in Sikkim for the last 17 years and we are happy new seeds of stamp collectors are getting prepared to take on this pleasures hobby ahead. 


Shital Pradhan, Secretary, SPNS, conducted a philately workshop that was attended by more than 150 students of the school. Pradhan gifted Special Covers and stamps to the philately club to start with. Members of SPNS displayed their valuable stamps exhibit which was highly appreciated by the students and teachers. SPNS were represented by Ganesh Pradhan, Shital Pradhan, Sunita Gurung and Pramila Gurung.

Singtam to observe Nepali Language Recognition Day 2022

01.08.22, Singtam: Nepali language admirers from Singtam have decided to observe the 30th Nepali Bhasa Diwas at the Bhanu Udhyan, Singtam this coming August 20. In a meeting held yesterday at the office of Sikkim Government Retired Employee Welfare Association, Singtam, a committee was formed. 


The meeting chaired by Shri KB Chettri, Joint Director, Education Department, Rangpo Sub Division had decided to organise an inter-school competition on extempore speech, essays and quizzes. The cultural program and poem recitation would be the other highlight of the day. 

Dr MK Sharma, Hon’ble Health Minister and Area MLA and Shri Rohit Raj Maharaj, Advisor to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim made Chief Parton and Parton of the Committee. The executive members selected by the meeting included - Shri Suresh Tamang, Shri Mohan Pradhan Neeraj & Shri Somnath Pandey (Advisor), Shri LN Pradhan (President), KB Chettri & Shri Shyam Rai (Vice President), Shri Sundar Rai (General Secretary) and Shri RN Shrestha (Treasurer).

सिंगतामका नेपाली भाषा प्रेमीहरूले आगामी अगस्ट २० गते भानु उद्यान, सिंगताममा ३०औँ नेपाली भाषा मान्यता दिवस मनाउने निर्णय गरेका छन्। हिजो सिक्किम सरकारी सेवानिवृत्त कर्मचारी कल्याण संघ, सिंगतामको कार्यालयमा भएको बैठकमा समिति गठन गरेको थियो ।



शिक्षा विभाग, राङ्पो उप डिभिजनका संयुत्त निर्देशक श्री केबी क्षेत्रीको अध्यक्षतामा बसेको बैठकले उत्कृष्ट भाषण, निबन्ध र प्रश्नोत्तरीमा अन्तरविद्यालय प्रतियोगिता आयोजना गर्ने निर्णय गरेको थियो। सांस्कृतिक कार्यक्रम र कविता वाचन दिनको अन्य आकर्षण हुनेछ।
माननीय स्वास्थ्य मन्त्री तथा क्षेत्रका विधायक डा एमके शर्मा र सिक्किमका माननीय मुख्यमन्त्रीका सल्लाहकार श्री रोहित राज महाराजलाई समितिको प्रमुख पार्टन र पार्टन बनाए। बैठकले चयन गरेको कार्यकारिणी सदस्यमा श्री सुरेश तामाङ, श्री मोहन प्रधान नीरज र श्री सोमनाथ पाण्डे (सल्लाहकार), श्री एलएन प्रधान (अध्यक्ष), केबी क्षेत्री र श्री श्याम राई (उपाध्यक्ष), श्री सुन्दर राई (महासचिव) र श्री आरएन श्रेष्ठ (कोषाध्यक्ष) थिए।
