Singtam's 192nd Bhanu Jayanti celebration

The 192nd Bhanu Jayanti was a huge celebration where three senior citizens from Singtam was felicitated who had contributed towards the development of Sikkim. was felicitated. DB Subba was felicitated for his special contribution to education in the state, Mary Lepcha for her services in the health sector,and Padam Singh Gurung, a retired Army official.


Minister,     Roads     & Bridges  and  Labour,  DT Lepcha,  was  present  as  the chief  guest  for  the  function which  had  Agriculture  Minister Somnath Poudyal as the president  of  the  organizing Committee along with the MLAs from Rakdong-Tintek, Central Pendam, Ratey-Pani, Khamdong, Sang-Martam and Temi-Tarku.  The ministers and MLAs joined the mammoth rally along side Raj Narayan Pradhan a renowned  writer from Darjeeling who was the guest of honour for the day. Among the other noted guest included Singer Karna Das.

Ralap SS’s HM congratulates his boys on winning U-14 Inter school ID tourney


SINGTAM, AUGUST 18: Dorjee Sherpa, Headmaster Ralap SS congratulated his school football team for winning the U-14 Independence Day Inter School Football Tournament held at Manjushri Public. Speaking on the school assembly, Headmaster appreciated the efforts of the boys and asked the entire students to work hard and reach the goal. The boys from Ralap SS defeated Manjushri Public School with two goals to zero in the final. Sandeep Subba and Sangay Tamang scored for the winning team. Further, Suman Tamang and Sandeep Subba from Ralap SS also bagged Highest Goal Scorer and the Man of the Match trophy. Yogesh Gurung, sports teacher added it was all about team efforts and I had belief on my boys. Eight schools had participated in the tournament. Dorjee Sherpa, Headmaster Ralap SS through this press release has also praised Wendy Pulger, Manjushri Public School for being a wonderful host.

Statue of Aruna Lama at Bijanbari


Aruna Lama was popularly known as the Nightingale of the Hills for her voice. Her legacy is only next to Narayan Gopal. This statue at Bijanbari is the only known statue of her ever known to date.

A halo, a ring round a sun

I do not understand how it is made but when caught on lens this phenomenon looks great. Folks, its halo- a ring around a sun from Sikkim. Enjoi!! This photograph was taken in March 2011.

MPs from Sikkim call on Hon’ble Minister of State for Civil Aviation

August 10, New Delhi: MP Sikkim, Shri PD Rai, Lok Sabha and Shri Hishey Lachungpa, Rajya Sabha met with the Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Shri Jayant Sinha to discuss the status of Pakyong Green Field Airport. At present the airport will operate with ATR 42-seater turboprop aircrafts on a 2km long runway. The Minister stated that Rs. 150 Cr has been set aside for expansion of the width of the runway, post inauguration, in order to facilitate the landing of ATR 72-seater aircrafts. The Minister offered that the Airport Authority of India could operate the airport if the state so requests. However, the autonomy to decide lies entirely with the state if the land belongs to the State Government. He also enquired about the road connectivity of the airport to Gangtok. The Minister informed the MPs about the new policy on subsidizing Helicopter connectivity to Sikkim, through the UDAN scheme, that is under active consideration. He also expressed interest to meet with Shri Ugen Gyatso Bhutia, Hon’ble Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Sikkim, within this month, in order to discuss operational issues. The meeting will also target high quality tourism and increasing airport viability through the building of infrastructure around the airport.
