Uttam Pradhan (Actor) : Shital Pradhan's Autograph Collection



Uttam Pradhan (Uttam Reeshi U. Pradhan ) recipient of Sikkim Kala Samman (2012), the highest Civilian Award conferred by the Government of Sikkim, is an Actor, Producer and Director. Some of his popular films are Darpan Chaya, Piyari Bahini, Letter, Basai and others.

Born to Late Durga Kumar Pradhan and Mrs Parbati Pradhan on July 30, 1974, Uttam Pradhan was the winner of Sinolchu Best Male Model of the Year (1995) and Mr Photogenic Colgate Palmolive (1996).
Pradhan's debut Nepali film Darpan Chaya (2001) is considered a cult film that broke many box office records. His film 'Basain', was an official entry to Oscar in the year 2006 from Nepal.
He had also been felicitated by Her Royal Highness Queen Komal Rajya Laxmi Devi Shah of Nepal. Uttam Pradhan is the founder and Chairman of the Sikkim Film Development Board, Government of Sikkim.

Sikkim girl Devanshi Agarwal scores 97.8 % in class xii exams

Devanshi Agarwal, a daughter of Singtam studying at Ecole Globale International Girl’s School, Dehradun has brought laurel to her state of Sikkim. She has scored 97.8% in her class XII board examinations. She was among the Humanities Stream toppers with History (99 marks), English (98 marks), Political Science (97 marks), Psychology (95 marks), Geography (92 marks) and (100 marks) in Painting.



Speaking on the occasion, the proud Devanshi Agarwal says, after the entire pandemic mishap, this wouldn’t have been possible without the immense support of my parents. It feels amazing to be a part of the Toppers’ List and I wish to do even better in the near future.

She is the daughter of Sanket Agarwal and Sonia Agarwal; granddaughter of Raghubir Agarwal and Nirmala Devi Agarwal.



She has given what I had always expected from her, definitely very happy and super excited. I hope that she carries a great performance in the future as well!, shares excited Sanket Agarwal, her father. Sonia Agarwal, her mother added she has always made us proud at every endeavour and this time she has given an outstanding performance, couldn’t be any happier! 

For others, Devanshi Agarwal is a shooting talent who had won 35 medals at different national-level shooting events in the last four years. She had also represented India in the Czech Republic and Germany.  Many many congratulations to Devanshi. Singtam and Sikkim are proud of your achievement.

List of Arjuna Awardees from Sikkim

Arjuna Award for Outstanding Performance in Sports and Games, officially called Arjuna Award is the second highest sports honour in India after Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award. Constituted in the year 1961, the award comprises a bronze statue of Arjuna (a character from the epic Mahabharata), a certificate, a ceremonial dress, and a cash prize of ₹15 lakh (US$20,000 - as of 2020).




Sonam Gyatso (1923–1968):
Sonam Gyatso claimed fame when at the age of 42 became the second Indian to summit Mt Everest on May 22, 1965. He was then the oldest person to reach the top and spend more than 50 minutes the longest time at the peak.

Recipient of Padma Shri (1962), Padma Bhushan (1965) and Arjuna Award (1965), Gyatso was the founder and Principal of Sonam Gyatso Mountaineering Institute at Rathong, Sikkim. He is the only person from Sikkim to get featured in an Indian Postage stamp.





Jaslal Pradhan (born 24 April 1957):  Jaslal Pradhan, a boxing legend from Sikkim was an Arjuna Awardee in 1983. He was a bronze medalist in the 1982 Delhi Asian Games in the Lightweight 60 kg category. He competed in the men's light welterweight event at the 1984 Summer Olympics.

Presently he is the Vice President (East Zone), of the Boxing Federation of India and the President of the Sikkim Amateur Boxing Association.




Bhaichung Bhutia (born 15 December 1976):  Bhaichung Bhutia is a former Indian national team captain, and recipient of the Arjuna Award (1998) and Padma Shri (2008).

Some of his achievement includes being - First Indian to sign for a European club, the Only Indian to be inducted into the Asian Hall of Fame, India's second youngest international goal scorer (18ys), the first Indian player to reach the 100th cap, and First player to score a hat-trick in Kolkata derby, Only Indian to win Golden Boot in an international club competition and others.


Tarundeep Rai (born 22 February 1984): Tarundeep Rai is one of the most decorated Indian archers. He has won 21 International medals for India including 7 gold, 11 silver and 3 bronze. He is a veteran of the Olympics, Asian Games and World Championship.

He scripted history by becoming the first Indian to win a silver medal in the men’s individual category in the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China. The Government of India has bestowed him with Arjuna Award (2005) and Padma Shri (2020).

His medals tally includes honour at Asian Games, World Championship, World Cup, Asian Archery Championships, Commonwealth Games and South Asian Federation Games.

Eight days Indrajatra 2022 to be celebrated in Sikkim

Gangtok, 17/07/2022:Indra Jatra” the Biggest Festival for the “Newar” community is celebrated with great enthusiasm in the Sikkim State every year. This year, the celebration would be an eight days long programme and is proposed to be organised with pomp and glory in the State capital, Gangtok from 2nd to 9th September 2022.



A high-level coordination meeting was held at Newar Bhawan, Sichey, Gangtok on 17th July 2022 to finalize the programmes and events. The meeting was graced by Hon’ble Advisor, Labour Department, Government of Sikkim Shri Manoj Pradhan, Shri Prashant Pradhan Chairman NHPC (Sikkim), Advisors and Central Executive Committee of Sikkim Newar Guthi amongst others.

Shri Nirmal Kumar Pradhan, President, Sikkim Newar Guthi coordinated the session and stressed the need to organise the Indrajatra event in a grand manner to showcase our rich cultural heritage and traditions.

It was finalised that the Indrajatra 2022 puja and rituals would be carried out for entire 8 days with 7 days of puja including Lingo and Dagini puja at Newar Bhawan leading to the final day of Lord Indra and Goddess Kumari Jatra on 9th September 2022 at Bhanu Udhyan, Gangtok.

On the 6th and 7th days i.e. on dated 7th and 8th, September 2022, exhibition stalls and cultural programmes are to be organised at M.G. Marg, Gangtok. The exhibition includes Newa Khaja Ghar with Aiela & Sagun, 84 Vanjyan, Photo/Art Gallery, Traditional Music Instruments & Costumes, Aachar, Handicraft and handloom, etc. The evening programmes at M.G. Marg would host various competitions such as Bhaju Maeju Sikkim (Mr. and Miss Newar Sikkim) and Traditional Dance and Music Competition. Various Cultural programs will also be organized by the presentation of Lakhey dance - a popular Newar dance along with the play of Dhimey and Daa which are traditional Newar musical instruments, etc. Ethnic Aachar Making, Essay, Poem and Painting Competition are also to be organised. This would also be an attraction to the tourists from India and abroad visiting the State. The event would be fully organic and eco-friendly without the use of plastics and other non-biodegradable substances.

The final day event i.e. on 9th September 2022 would begin at Bhanu Udhyan with the worship of various deities including Lord Indra followed by the chariot (rath) procession of Goddess Kumari, the living Goddess accompanied by drum beats, masked dance performances (lakhey) and various dance performances. The procession will end at Manan Bhawan which is scheduled to host cultural programmes, award distributions, felicitations, the launch of Newar magazines “Smarika” & “PAU” and culminating the celebrations with a Grand Musical Gala event. Large numbers of Newars from all over the State and outside are expected to gather for this auspicious event at the State Capital.

During the meeting, the Indra Jatra Committee was also formed with Shri Narayan Pradhan as Chairman, Shri Dhiraj Pradhan and Smt Rohini Pradhan as Vice-Chairpersons, Shri Raj Mohan Pradhan as General Secretary and Shri Swagat Pradhan as Treasurer. Various other sub-committees were also formed for various assignments and responsibilities. The meeting ended with a vote of thanks by the Vice-president, Sikkim Newar Guthi.
