Singtam Badminton Club organizes badminton derby

01.08.22: One-day friendly, derby badminton matches were played between the players of Singtam Badminton Club, Rongli Badminton Association and Bermoik Badminton Association.

The tournament was organised by Singtam Badminton Association to commemorate the 75th Years of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav and held at Indoor Sports Complex, Singtam. Shri Damber Pradhan, Incharge of Chujachen Constituency was the Chief Guest of the day. Pradhan himself also participated in the derby as a player.


Forty badminton players participated in the 26 matches that were played throughout the day. Players from Rongli won two of the three events held on the day. Bikram Pradhan and Choden Bhutia (RBA) defeated Amrita Gurung and Jigdel Sherpa (RBA) for the mixed doubles title. The players from Rongli, Amrita Gurung and Choden Bhutia outplayed their rivals from Singtam, Sonu Rai and Hritika Bhattarai in the women’s doubles final. 

Lalit Pradhan and Laxuman Gajmer (SBA) won against Yogesh Gurung and Pintu Prasad (SBA), with Yogesh Gurung getting hurt, and the umpire giving the call off to win the men’s doubles final. Singtam Badminton Association would like to congratulate all the players for making the event successful.

Snake like fish caught in Singtam River

The  Indian mottled eel,  locally known as Raj Bam,   was recovered from the Singtam River at Golitar this early morning.  The snake-like fish weighed around 7 kg and was four feet long. The local people said that they had never seen this species for so long. Such mysterious-looking marine fish are also sighted from time to time on the river banks, local people added.

Sikkim closes for a day in support of their CM

A 12-hour bandh call by the supporters of the ruling SDF party was observed today. The bandh was called to protest the burning of Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling's effigy by the Shiv Sena activists on the 11th of September in Siliguri, West Bengal charging CM Chamling with having 'dual nationality. Except for Army and GREF all other Vehicles, as well as shops, were closed. Such a state bandh was last held ten years back. (photographs from Singtam)
