SNP President inaugurates SGREWA Singtam Branch office

December 27, Singtam: Suresh Tamang, President, Singtam Nagar Panchayat inaugurated the Singtam Branch Office of Sikkim Government Retired Employees Welfare Association at Old Shopping Complex, Mandi Bazaar, Singtam. Present on the occasion were Yad Kri Kami, Kishore Chettri (Councillors, SNP), Dr. Tempo Bhutia, CMO, District Hospital Singtam, Krishna Chettri, President, Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti, Mahesh Dahal, Headmaster, Dipudara PS and members of SRGEWA Singtam.



The second session of the program was organised at Bihari Dharamsala. The program started with the two-minute silence on the passing away of Late Dr. Sanjay Upretti and Late Yogen Thatal, son of Kuber Thatal, former driver of Singtam Hospital. Suresh Tamang, President, SNP and his team was presented with a token of appreciation. LN Pradhan, President, SGREWA Singtam in his welcome speech appreciated and thanked Singtam Nagar Panchayat for the approval of the office. He said we are retired but not tired; we are dedicated towards the development of our retired friends and the society.






Suresh Tamang, also the chief guest of the day, congratulated the members of SGREWA Singtam for the new office. Singtam Nagar Panchayat is always prepared to help in every need of the organisation, added Tamang. Other people to speak on the occasion included Bharat Pradhan, General Secretary, SGREWA Singtam Branch, Dr. Tempo Bhutia, Mahesh Dahal and HL Lamichaney, Vice President, SGREWA.. Three newly retired members were offered khadas and welcomed at the organisation. Roshan Bishwakarma, student from Sakyong Chisopani JHS sang two songs that were highly appreciated by the gathered audience. PP Upretti was the host of the day.

BCCI Appoints Tenzing As Manager Of India U19 World Cup Team

GANGTOK (SIKKIM), DECEMBER 21, 2021: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed Mr Lobzang G Tenzing, President of Sikkim Cricket Association (SICA), as the Manager of the India Under-19 Team that will play in the Asia Cup tournament organised by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) in the UAE from December 23 and ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup in West Indies from January 14.



BCCI Secretary named Mr Tenzing as the Under-19 Team Manager for the Asia Cup tournament to be played from December 23 to 31 and ICC Under 19 Cricket World Cup to be played from January 14 to February 5, 2022. Mr Tenzing has been the President of SICA since 2016, and under his dynamic leadership, the small state has made its mark in the East Zone with its men and women’s teams under different age categories.

“I am pleased and honoured to be in the presence of the future cricket stars of the country. I hope to bring some dazzles of these stars back home and to our region. I am also immensely thankful to Shri Jay Shah secretary BCCI for giving me such honour and responsibility. His concern and commitment for developing NE is real and it shows in his action.” Say, Mr Tenzing.



Being a proactive cricket administrator, Mr Tenzing has worked hard for ensuring better infrastructure, enhanced funds and recognition from BCCI for state cricket bodies of not only his home state Sikkim but also the north-eastern states as a whole. The Sikkim Cricket Association is proud that BCCI has reposed his trust in the administrative abilities by appointing him as the Manager of the India Under-19 team and also feels that his new responsibility will give a boost to the confidence of the Northeast cricket associations in producing national-level players and administrators of the game.

Nirmal Pradhan elected the new President of Sikkim Newar Guthi

Gangtok, 19/12/2021: Sikkim Newar Guthi (SNG), a non-profit Organization registered vide No. 689/LR/94 held its Annual General Meeting at the Tourism and Civil Aviation Conference Hall amidst large gathering of Newars from all over the State including guests and dignitaries. The meeting was chaired by Shri. Dilu Kr. Pradhan, President, Sikkim Newar Guthi and the other Central Executive members.



The main agenda of the meeting was presentation of the Reports of Activities and Statement of Accounts for the period 2019-20 and 2020-21 and election of new executive members of SNG. The meeting started with lighting of lamp (Sukunda) followed by observing a minute of silence in memory of our loved ones who we lost due to the pandemic and also in solidarity with the attack on the doctor and staff of STNM Hospital.


The Welcome address as well as Report of the Activities for the past two years was presented by Mrs. Anita Pradhan, General Secretary, Sikkim Newar Guthi. Likewise, the Audited Statement of Accounts of the SNG as well as the activities on construction of Newar Bhawan for two years was presented by the Treasurer, Mr. Mahendra Pradhan. Social Wing Secretary, Mr. Sujit Pradhan, presented Report on the activities taken up the Guthi in the name “Service to Mankind” especially during the COVID-19 pandemic and thanked all the Guthi members who supported during these activities.On this auspicious occasion “PAU”, the three scripted languages magazine, Series no. 4 was also launched from the hands of President, SNG; Hon’ble Chairman, NHPC, Shri Prashant Pradhan and other dignitaries.Executive members and members of different Sakhasand Zones put forward their suggestions and problems and highlighted the focus areas to be taken up by the new Executive body. Shri Dilu Kr. Pradhan, President, SNG presented the activities of Sikkim Newar Guthi and also highlighted the areas of concern for the new executive to be taken up during their tenure. Subsequently, the current Central Executive Committee under the leadership of Shri Dilu Kr. Pradhan was permanently dissolved with the completion of their four and half year tenure (extended by one and half year due to the pandemic).





The Election Committee formed under the Chairmanship of Shri Karun K. Pradhan, thereafter, took charge of the proceedings of the Meeting. Mr. Pradhan gave an overall view of the activities on the conduct of elections followed by Mrs. Radha Pradhan, Member Secretary, who gave a detailed account of the election activities and declaration of new elected Central Executive Committee of the Guthi namely Shri Nirmal Kumar Pradhan as President, Shri Mahendra Pradhan as Vice President, Mrs Hom Kumari Pradhan as Vice President (Women), Dr. Sushen Pradhan as General Secretary and Mr. Mahendra Pradhan as Treasurer. All the candidates were elected unopposed. Certificates to the newly elected members were presented by Shri Dilip K. Pradhan, Returning Officer, Election Committee.





The newly elected President, Shri Nirmal Kumar Pradhan, addressed the audience with programmes and activities to be taken up by SNG. He assured that he, along with his team members, will put in their best efforts and will leave no stone unturned to take the Guthi to greater heights of success. He also declared the starting of Newar language classes for teachers from 1st January 2021 at the Newar Guthi Bhawan. Shri Mani Kumar Pradhan, who was also proposed for the role of Executive Advisor of the SNG addressed the gathering of their role and responsibilities. The Annual General Meeting ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Sushen Pradhan, General Secretary SNG. The whole programme was smoothly conducted by Mr. Bikash Pradhan, Culture Secretary, Sikkim Newar Guthi.

Sikkim State Awardee teacher IB Pradhan felicitated

 Mr I. B. Pradhan, a recipient of the prestigious STATE TEACHERS' AWARD 2021, a Primary Teacher of Government Secondary School, Lingtam was felicitated by Sikkim Teachers' Association, Regu Block on the 16th December, 2021. The  programme was held at Village Paradise Resort Makaibari, Rongli.



To grace this proud moment Mr Kumar Pradhan, JD Education Department, Rongli Sub Division was chaired as the Chief Guest whereas Ms. J. M. Chettri, Principal, Government Senior Secondary School, Chujachen, Mr. K. N. Pradhan, Deputy Director Education Department Rongli division, Mr. Narad Chettri, Deputy Director Education Department BAC Regu, Mr. Gyalpo Sherpa, AD BAC Regu, Mrs. Devika Thapa, AEO BAC Regu, Mrs. Shabnam Golay, HM, KPTGSS Rongli, Mr. Amrit Thakuri HM, Posakey PS and recipient of the prestigious National Teachers' Award 2012, Mr.  Vivek Niraula HM Lingtam SS, Mr Kiran Rai HM South Regu SS, Mr Dinesh Bhattarai, Publicity Secretary, STA. East District along with the School Heads and teachers of different schools gave their valuable presence on the occasion.


The program was hosted by Mr Bhim Pradhan, teacher of Rongli Secondary School and Ms. Sonam Yamzung Bhutia, teacher of Chujachen Senior Secondary School. Welcome Address was presented by Mr. Mahendra Thapa, President, Regu Block and he stated that the programme was a success because of the teamwork of the entire members of STA, Regu Block and also anticipated for the same kind of support from the association in the days to come.
