SGSS goes virtual; celebrates 28th Nepali Bhasa Diwas

SINGTAM, AUGUST 20:   Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti celebrated 28 th Nepali Bhasa Diwas with display of online nepali poetry recitation through social platform. Six poets were invited to share their videos of poem that was uploaded on the official Facebook page of Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti. Speaking on the occasion, Krishna Chettri, President, SGSS told, we had been observing Nepali Bhasa Diwas as a big event but this time due to Covid-19 pandemic we thought of a different concept. After discussing with executive members and advisors of the Samiti we decided to go for virtual media platform. 74th Independence Day observed at Shantinagar

SINGTAM, AUGUST 15: Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti observed the 74th Independence Day in its shortest time. The program was limited to hoisting of flag and distribution of congratulation certificates to the students of Shantinagar.  Twenty members of SGGS were present on the occasion and those names were submitted to Singtam Police Station while seeking permission. Proper social distance was maintained during the short program. Menuka Sundas (Coordinator – Women SGSS) was the Chief Guest on the program. She hoisted the national flag, thereafter the national anthem was sung.  Krishna Chettri, President, SGSS spoked in brief about the day and celebration was done with Covid-19 health protocol. Chettri also appealed the house owners at Shantinagar to inform about the Pharma Company working tenants. Aadrika Chettri thanks Nutshell Sikkim School Quiz organisers

Aadrika Chettri, Class 8, Mount Zion School, Kidzee Singtam stood 2nd among the 8 Finalists on Nutshell Sikkim School Quiz held online on 4th August 2020. She is the daughter of Arjun Chettri Mijas and Uma Subba. The quiz was held on two rounds – Prelims and the Finals. Ninety-Seven students from different schools of Sikkim had participated in the competition. On the occasion, she has thanked the organizers of the Nutshell Sikkim School Quiz for organizing such a type of quiz competition for the students of Sikkim, especially during this lockdown. We got to learn much-needed educational knowledge through Nutshell, she said.   Aadrika has further thanked her respected Principal, Mt. Today, he is remembered as Sikkim’s first COVID-19 death patient. Obituaries poured from different sections of the societies, including the ‘who is who’ of Sikkim. For many of his old students, being unable to attend their favourite teacher’s last walk remains the most unfortunate scenario in their lives. He was a highly respected individual, much appreciated for his simpleton lifestyle, and dedicated his life to the teaching profession. Without a doubt, Rongli has lost one of her proud sons. My Dhaba (my father’s elder brother), Ghanashyam Pradhan, lovingly called ‘GS Sir’, by one and all, was a retired former Headmaster of Phadamchen SSS. An educationist with vibrant thoughts, as shown in his teaching days, had been the trademark of his more than two decades of illustrious profession. He enjoyed his retirement life at Rongli, his birthplace, with his wife, two sons (Praveen Pradhan and Pranay Pradhan), and his grandchildren, who also contributed to certain social gatherings...
