74th Independence Day observed at Shantinagar


SINGTAM, AUGUST 15: Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti observed the 74th Independence Day in its shortest time. The program was limited to hoisting of flag and distribution of congratulation certificates to the students of Shantinagar. 



Twenty members of SGGS were present on the occasion and those names were submitted to Singtam Police Station while seeking permission. Proper social distance was maintained during the short program. Menuka Sundas (Coordinator – Women SGSS) was the Chief Guest on the program. She hoisted the national flag, thereafter the national anthem was sung. 

Krishna Chettri, President, SGSS spoked in brief about the day and celebration was done with Covid-19 health protocol. Chettri also appealed the house owners at Shantinagar to inform about the Pharma Company working tenants. Heema Pradhan, Sujal Sunar, Rinchen Sherpa and Ayushman Chettri were presented with certificates for passing out CBSE Class X 2020. Pranay Pradhan, member of SGSS who had participated at State Level Open Men and Women Physique Championship on March 2020 was also presented with congratulation certificates. The Chief Guest in her short speech thanked SGSS for the honour and shared them best wishes.

Sikkim closes for a day in support of their CM

A 12-hour bandh call by the supporters of the ruling SDF party was observed today. The bandh was called to protest the burning of Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling's effigy by the Shiv Sena activists on the 11th of September in Siliguri, West Bengal charging CM Chamling with having 'dual nationality. Except for Army and GREF all other Vehicles, as well as shops, were closed. Such a state bandh was last held ten years back. (photographs from Singtam)

Snake like fish caught in Singtam River

The  Indian mottled eel,  locally known as Raj Bam,   was recovered from the Singtam River at Golitar this early morning.  The snake-like fish weighed around 7 kg and was four feet long. The local people said that they had never seen this species for so long. Such mysterious-looking marine fish are also sighted from time to time on the river banks, local people added.
