Rainfall causes landslide, many trees and houses damaged, 2 died

Gangtok: June 3: Owing to strong storm and heavy rainfall that occurred on June 2 evening, some part of roads and houses damaged in and around Gangtok. The storm and landslides caused massive damaged to the trees and roads were temporarily obstructed due to fallen trees on the both sides of roads at Burtuk, Chandmari and other places. The Forest Department, DC/East, the disaster management and local people swung into action and the roads were cleared immediately. The electricity lines and pillars too were damaged and there was shortage of power supply in the area for a long period. Similarly, water supply pipes too were found damaged following the landslides and the water supply too was obstructed. However, the power and water supply were rescued partially at the moment. The rainfall continued the next evening too. The house belonging to Phup Tshering Bhutia of lower Burtuk submerged in water after rainfall and his belongings of worth lakh rupees were destroyed. His two sons were at home and saved at the time of incident that took place and their parents were away from house. Meanwhile, thunderbolt killed two person of Raksey busty, East Sikkim.
