BORDER SECURITY CANNOT BE COMPROMISED : ARMY

Border security is as important as border trade and it should run parallel. However, when the question of national security arises, no compromise can be made, GOC Major General KVS Lalotra today said. Clarifying that the army has taken positive note of Nathula trade, he however took strong exception on army not been taken into consideration while developing the once fortified area into trade mart.

While pointing out lack of co-ordination between the army, custom and the state government, he said that the army would initiate steps to gap the confusion. Appearing cynical on the issue that the army was undermined while major development were taking place, he said that, one who has guarded the zone since the Chinese aggression in the sixties, has hurt a lot.

Clarifying that there is no interference from the army on the trade activities, he said that personnel harassing the trader, if found would be dealt severely. He also said that the army had suggested of separate route for trade and tourist carriage of which the suggestion had been sent to the concerned Ministry.
