image GANGTOK, Nov. 20: The state roads and bridges department under the PWD launched its official website yesterday.

The website would be a storehouse of detailed information about the roads and ways in Sikkim, which would be of great help to tourists as well to locals.

The website www.sikkim-roadsandbridges.org was inaugurated by the state roads and bridges minister Mr DT Lepcha. The website is under the Right to Information Act which was passed by the Assembly last year.

The website should as a compulsory feature contain budget, public notice, tender and the list of contact numbers of all public officials,” said Mr Lepcha.

“Vision 2020 will also be a part of this website, which will highlight the going projects such as a new airport at Pakyong and alternative national highways that are under construction in Sikkim at present” he added.

A high-tech layout which would provide information about all plans and projects of the future online, is also being planned by the department.

“Online information about the condition of roads will be available. Telephone services will also be opened for people’s convenience.” said Mr Gopal Sharma, secretary roads and bridges department.
