CONTROVERSY ON GRAND MUSICAL NITE OF PRASHANT TAMANG

Gangtok, November 6: Indian Idol-3 Prashant Tamang had performed at Palzor Stadium Monday, compelling the first semi-final of the All India Governor’s Gold Cup to be postponed by a day. Thousands of Prashant fans crowded at the Palzor Stadium to listen to his first ever show in Sikkim after winning the ‘Indian Idol-3’ crown last September. At the programme, Sikkim chief minister Pawan Chamling released Prashant’s first music album ‘Dhanyabad’ On the other hand, fans of Prashant are disappointed with Sony Entertainment channel. The Sikkim Educated Unemployed Youth Organization has strongly objected to the idea of paying an entry fee to watch Indian Idol III Prashant Tamang.

Sony however, made a profit of more than Rs 30 lakh and the state government lost a minimum Rs 7.5 lakh as entertainment tax (from 25 per cent of the ticket price). Sony Entertainment channel didn’t seek permission from UDHD Department and tickets were not stamped by department as per the rules and laws of the land, which is violation of the financial rule of the state. Central Reception Committee, Organizer of the program had made a statement to the media that they were selling coupons at the rate of Rs. 150.00 each and coupon holders will get a free CD at Gangtok between 20th to 25th November. But the fact is in tickets printed by Sony Entertainment channel that organizers had sold tickets, not the coupon. This is illegal as per the financial rule of the state.
