Gangtok, October 29: Eighty four Independent candidates from Gram Panchayat Units and seven Independent candidates from Zilla Panchayats emerged victorious in the Panchayat polls.
Interestingly, the margin of the winning as well as the losing candidates is much less, the least being a difference of mere four votes in some Panchayat wards.
The SDF party won the majority of the seats although a good number of Independent candidates particularly from South and East District won their respective Panchayat wards.
Moreover, there was one candidate from the opposition stable who emerged victorious. Bishnulal Rai of Lower Lunglok, Yangten under Tashiding Constituency won a seat in GPU from Indian National Congress.
