Sikkim Chief Minister presents deficit budget of Rs. 39 lakh no new tax, Governor Agrawal lauded the effort of the Government

Gangtok, March 5: With the presentation of the speech by Governor Sudharshan Agarwal, the budget session of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly began here. Governor Agarwal stated that the State Government has provided a 40% reservation for women in the Panchayats, and many initiatives have been taken to develop the State.


Later, the Chief Minister and the minister-in-charge of Finance, Dr. Pawan Chamling, presented the financial year 2008-2009 budget with an Rs. lakh deficit. No new tax has been imposed in this budget bill. The total expenditure of Rs. 3165.74 has been proposed in the budget for the coming fiscal year. Five bills have also been introduced in the assembly by Minister Hissey Lachungpa, Minister Ram Bahadur Subba, Minister D.T. Lepcha, and Chief Minister and leader of the house Dr. Chamling.
