RUNGPO (NOW RANGPO) PHOTOGRAPHS IN 1910

Rangpo has an emotional attachment to me; my mother was a government school teacher, and I spent the first two years of my life there. Rangpo Government School (1980) This photo presentation is from a series of photographs dating to 1910 attributed to Absolute Vintage Photos. Rangpo, a business hub and a historic town, is today a vital border town of Sikkim, the gateway to eastern Sikkim. Since the monarchy days, the vehicles have stopped being checked, and foreigners need the required documents even to this day.

Danny Denzongpa's first nepali film Mashal

Danny Denzongpa 's first Nepali film, Mashal , was produced by Sikkim Films Corporation Private Limited . Pratap Subba , a popular Nepali film director, directed it. The film was released in 1982. The film had the acting talents of that generation— Rajani Sharma , Danny Denzongpa, Sunil Thapa , Tej Rasaily, Ashok Sharma, Sushila Rayamaji, Ganesh Rijal, C. K. Shreshta, and others. Danny played a blind retired army man, while Sunil Thapa, also in his first Nepali film, was the villain. Kusum Gazmer wrote the lyrics, and Ranjit Gaazmer provided the music. Three songs — Yo Badaal , Dara Khola,  and  Ropaa Hai—are  still remembered to this day. The singers were Udit Narayan , Deepa Ghatraj, and Sushma Shrestha . In an interesting anecdote, I was told by Bhim Rawat, senior journalist and former President of the Sikkim Press Club, that he had watched the movie at Sri Krishna Hall at Rhenock , paying Rs. 1.50 paise for the ticket.

Triplet born in STNM Hospital

It is not often that you hear of triplets born in Sikkim, and when it happens, it is news. Three girls Ganga, Jamuna and Saraswati, named after the great rivers, this triplet was born in the centenary year of the STNM Hospital, Gangtok, on September 27, 2017. Born to the couple Man Bahadhur Tamang and Sapna Tamang from Lingmoo near Yangyang, South Sikkim. Interestingly, her mother told her that the ultrasound report did not mention the triplet. She was brought to the hospital in the evening, and the babies were born the next day.  The eldest of the girls weighs 2,600 gm, and the other two 1,800 gm Video : The Voice of Sikkim

A good artist will perform any kind of song in any kind of situation : Nitish Pradhan

Meet Nitish Pradhan, an upcoming music heartthrob of Sikkim. His music reflects melody, youthfulness and about the lifestyle Sikkim. He is the one half of Sikkim’s first male/female pop. 1. Three music video in a short span, how do you see yourself in coming years? : It’s not as easy as one views it. It entails so much hard work and labour to come up with a song first and then to make a music video is a totally different ball game altogether. As an artist it is natural to expect progression and growth. I wish that too. Hopefully in my upcoming songs everyone will see a different side to my artistry. At the end, it is a team work and my sincere thanks to each and every individual that I have worked with till now. 2. Your "Maya" video was highly appreciated, your say. Even with relatively less promotion "Maya" surpassed our expectations. "Anisha-Nitesh" Duo is known for this song. I always believed that a good song will always get its due ...

INTERVIEW OF THE WEEK: Nitish Pradhan

First time in Sikkim, a male/female pop two-some composition had been attempted. If one has a mezzo soprano vocal range than the other has a baritone vocal to follow her up. They prefer pop, electro-pop and fusion-experimental music with all their upcoming tracks based on these genres. Both are products of Tashi Namgyal Academy, Gangtok and are in the final years of their College at Tadong. We are proud to present Nitish Pradhan the one half of the two-some duo for a small chat about their latest music video and their fascination about music. 1 . Tell us something about your new video. Party Time” is a music video which is a part of our first debut music album. Noel Karthak Lepcha, popular music composer of our state had done the music for us. It is an electrifying video; it is made by Gangtok based 360 Imaginative Designs under Minjo Lama's direction. Nachyo Babari thrills young Burung students

SINGtAM:  They came, they saw, but they did not conqueror, and yet they were winners of their own rights.   The first round exit from the audition of the Nachyo Babari held at SDF Bhawan in Gangtok on September 13 did not deter the minds of students of Burung Primary School near Singtam.  The mere opportunity to perform at the stage of the state-level competition was more than a lifelong experience for them.  Burung Primary School, in its twenty-fourth year of establishment, broke their jinx when it sent its five students and its choreographer to participate in the dance competition. All girls’ group dance participants included students of age groups fourteen and fifteen. All the students were visiting Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim, for the very first time. The student group presented their dance performance from Uttam Pradhan’s Nepali debut film “Darpan Chaya”, who was one of the three judges along with Kamal Rai and Pema Tsedun.  The three judges did apprec...
