There are many nations participating at the Tokyo Olympic still looking for one medal, athletes despite many appearances in the Olympics had failed to win any medals. Among them we have, An San, a 20 year old archer from South Korea becoming the first archer to win three gold medals in a single Olympic game. Interestingly, Korea has so far won every single gold medal available in archery at the Tokyo Olympics .

With a high expectation to watch a  lone Sikkimese sportsperson among the medal winners, the people of Sikkim was thrilled to hear that their Tarundeep Rai has bagged a bronze team recurve event at the 19th Commonwealth Games. 14 June, 2008 - One of the two Sikkimese teams, Sikkim AA Red, scheduled to play Chang II today in the Coronation Shield archery tournaments could not make it to the tournament. According to archery federation officials, the team was stranded because of a strike in the Indian district of Darjeeling. The other team, Sikkim AA Blue, will make it for their first match against Key Dee Timber on Monday, according to officials. “The Sikkimese teams will wear their traditional dress, Chu-ba, while playing in the tournament,” said the assistant general secretary of Bhutan archery federation, Jurmey Wangdi. Sikkim AA Red missing that match means Chang 11 gets a walkover to the next round. A record 36 teams are participating in the tournament, played on imported equipment at the archery ground opposite the Chang Jiji housing complex. India has called off a tour by its junior archers to Taiwan for an international tournament there after the Taiwan Trade and Cultural office here denied visa to two archers from Sikkim, demanding additional proof of nationality, apart from their Indian passports.”The tour has been called off. The Taiwan trade and cultural office did not believe the date and place of birth that was given in the Indian passport. They wanted added proof, in the form of domicile certificates. We did not agree because the passport is a document issued by the Indian government,” Paresh Nath Mukherjee, senior vice-president, Archery Association of India told The Indian Express. “Either the full squad goes or none at all,” said AAI president and BJP MP V K Malhotra, when asked about the tour involving 32 junior and cadet team members for the Asian Grand Prix Second Round meet to be held in Chinese-Taipei, as Taiwan is officially referred to, from June 14 to 20.
