This group photograph of the Teachers and the students of Government Senior Secondary School, Singtam dates back to 1966. The school then was more popular as Singtam High School.

VP Singh, the then Prime Minister of India had visited Sikkim in 1990 a few months before his fall from PM post. He lost the vote of no confidence when BJP had withdrawn support. NB Bhandari was the Chief Minister of Sikkim during that time. The above photographs were taken at Gangtok found on the website of ‘My Old Arndt Lilley’. VP Singh was at office from 2 nd December 1989 till 10th November 1990. His prime ministerial tenure lasted for 343 days. He died on 27 November 2008, at the age of 77.

Sikkim Sangram Parishad, regional political party in Sikkim was formed in 1984, when NB Bhandari, leader of Sikkim Janta Parishad dissolved his old party to form a new one. The SSP Party went on to win two state elections in 1984 and 1989 - winning all 32 seats in the house.  After losing two consecutive state elections to Sikkim Democratic Front, Bhandari merged SSP with Indian National Congress and became the President of Sikkim Pradesh Congress Committee (SPCC) in 2004. Bhandari later in 2013 revived SSP again. After the death of NB Bhandari in 2017, his wife Dil Kumari Bhandari became the President of Sikkim Sangram Parishad.
