Minister Somnath Poudhyal inaugurates volleyball ground at Shantinagar

"Shanti Nagar Sudhar Samiti" started its sports wing with the inauguration of the volleyball ground on March 23,  2017 in the presence of Area MLA/ Minister Somnath Poudyal along the walkway premises at Shanti Nagar, Singtam.  Urgen Tamang, the renowned volleyball player of yesteryear from Singtam was given the responsibility of the Chief Coach. Mr. Poudyal was offered khada by LN Pradhan, advisor SGSS. Krishna Chettri, President SGSS  in his welcome address gave the brief about the starting of the sports wing. He said Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti is preparing towards better society, we want to engage our youngsters in sports and have a better health. We will very soon be building up the badminton court, Chettri added. Other members of the SGSS was also present on the occasion. Deven VI lifts Open Volley Ball Tournament at Rongli

Rongli, 18th September 2015: Deven VI lifts the Open Volley Ball Tournament held at Garg Bhawan, Rongli. They defeated the team of Chujachen SSS and collected the winner trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 50,000. Chujachen SSS received the Runner-Up trophy and the cash prize of Rs. 25,000. The winner trophy was sponsored by L. B. Gurung and B.B. Gurung in memory of their father late Indra Bahadur Gurung. Bikram Pradhan, Hon’ble Area MLA cum Chief Whip, Government of Sikkim was present as the Chief Guest. SDM, SDPO, Managing Director, DACS, Manager, SISCO Bank and others were also present. Robin Kumar Pradhan, President of Rongli Driver Association welcomed the guests. Independence Volleyball tourney at Mazhitar

Press Release Majhitar-Rangpo 16 th .July.2013: Majhitar Educated Unemployed Youth Cooperative Society is organizing 2 nd Late Man Rupa Gurung Memorial Volleyball Tournament on the occasion of Independence Day Celebration. Tournament will start from 2 nd of August 2013. MEUYCS is a registered active body in Majhitar Rangpo mostly known for their social works around those areas.   With the success of their debut organized tournament last year, this year also they are organizing this tournament in a very big way. Memorial Cup is named after Late Mother of Minister of Building & Housing Department Smt. Tilu Gurung. Parakha annual village festive concludes

Re-Incarnation Organisation concluded its annual day 2009 with the final of Inter Village level Volleyball tournament and Open Dance competition, which was held at the Parakha School premises yesterday. The programme attended by a large number of people from nearby areas saw several village rural sports participated by school students and locals. GS Pradhan, former educator and senior citizen from Parakha was also felicitated on the occasion. The volleyball tournament was won by Shantideep Sangh from Bara Pathing defeating Kanchenjunga Club from Linkey in a closely fought match. { Much before Ravangla was claimed 'the home of volleyball in Sikkim’; it was Singtam that had its synonyms with the game of volleyball. } Singtam is a major business 'power-house' town in the state of Sikkim and also the gateway to the other three districts of Sikkim. Once known in and across the state for its volleyball skills; Singtam of today is a crowded bazaar. Every small space in Singtam is filled with household buildings and shopping complexes. Old folks still talk about those golden days of the volleyball matches that were played here and how the small town of Singtam then had its own dignity and supremacy.
