Two days training cum Saffron corms distribution programme was concluded at Yuksom, West Sikkim on 12 th  and 13 th  October 2022, in a joint collaboration with  North East Centre for Technology Application & Reach (NECTAR), Department of Science & Technology, Government of India and Biotechnology Division of Sikkim State Council of Science & Technology, Department of Science & Technology, Government of Sikkim Gangtok,  under the project titled "Saffron Cultivation project in Northeast India".   The training cum distribution of Saffron in Sikkim was the outcome of the meeting of Dr. B. C. Basistha Director DST, Govt. of Sikkim with Dr. Arun Kumar Sharma, Director General, NECTAR and Dr. Collin Z-Renthlei, Advisor, (Technical) NECTAR, in New Delhi. Five days training programme on “ MOLECUALR TECHNINIQUES AND STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF MOLECULAR DATA ” was organized by Sikkim State Biotech hub, Biotechnology Division of Sikkim State Council of Science and Technology, Deorali, Gangtok w.e.f 8 th .03 .2016 to 12 th 03.2016.  The programme was supported by Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. M.Sc. Medical Biotechnology students of Sikkim Manipal University, Junior Research Fellows of the host institute attended the training. The hands-on training covered on the isolation of plant genomic DNA, preparation of DNA extraction buffers, Gel-Electrophoresis, DNA quantification in Bio-spectrophotometer, Amplification of DNA in Polymerase Chain Reaction and statistical analysis of molecular data.  The hands-on training was imparted by Dr Sushen Pradhan, Research Associate (SBH) and Shri. GANGTOK, JULY 7:   Sushen Pradhan, son of Shri T.B. Pradhan and Smt. D.K. Pradhan of Development Area, Gangtok has completed his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Biotechnology from Guwahati University on June 30. His topic was “Development of tissue culture system for in vitro regeneration, biochemical and molecular characterization of ginger varieties grown in Sikkim”. Pradhan was under the guidance of Prof. P.J. Handique, Guwahati University. Pradhan in his press release has acknowledged his family, Dr. B.C. Basistha (Additional Director), Department of Science and Technology & Climate Change and all the people who directly and indirectly supported him for the completion of his research work.
