Singtam, June 5, 2023 – Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti (SGSS) enthusiastically joined hands with the global community to observe World Environment Day. The day was marked by a significant tree plantation drive, with over 200 saplings being planted along the scenic Rani Khola Walkway in Shantinagar, Singtam. The program was graced by the presence of Shri Sanjeev Chettri, Range Officer from the Singtam Forest Department, who served as the Chief Guest. Krishna Chettri, President of SGSS, presented a traditional khada to the chief guest, while also highlighting the various activities undertaken by the organization as part of its green mission. During his speech, the Range Officer praised the commendable efforts of SGSS and expressed his assurance of full support from the Singtam Forest Department. He acknowledged the significance of such initiatives in preserving and nurturing the environment for future generations.

SINGTAM, March 16: A felicitation program was organized at the school premises of Adarsh Vidhya Mandir (AVM), Singbel, East Sikkim on March 14. Shital Pradhan , a teacher and a blogger was the Chief Guest of the day. The event also saw the presence of B.B. Chettri (Headmaster, Dipudara Primary School), Lomas Dhungel (Founder cum Developer, Hariyo Makha), Bhim Prasad Nepal (1971 Bangladesh war veteran), along with SMCs, SHGs, students and locals. The event was the celebration of the success story of Hariyo Makha initiative. Lomas Dhungel led Hariyo Makha initiative had shared his idea on upcycling plastics for book covers to Ajambari Self Help Group (Singbel) for a social experiment on cleanliness. SINGTAM, JUNE 25:   Energy and Power Department, Toppakhani Circle I joined hand with rest of the state of Sikkim in organizing the “10 minutes to Earth” program.   Different species of flowering and non flowering saplings were planted at its premises. Present on the occasion was Raju Gurung (SE), LP Tiwari (DE), Devendra Century (DE) and the staff of Power Department, Toppakhani Circle I. Similarly at Toppakhani Stage II Power House, plantation was also organsied today. More than 70 saplings of pine, laampattey, bottle brush, avocado, marigold, chaap and others were planted.   CM Tiwari (DE), Stage II, Dhurba Pradhan (Foreman) along with the other staff was present on the occasion.

SINGTAM, June 5, 2013:  A plantation drive was organized at Sakyong Chisopani JHS on the occasion of World Environment Day. About 90 saplings of different plant species were planted around the school premises. Present on the occasion were school staff, students, and a few SMC members. SK Gurung, Social Worker was the chief guest on the occasion while PB Tamang, a senior citizen was the special guest. Different plant species both ornamental and medicinal included Parijat, Silver Oak, Neem, Gul Mohur, Bougainvillea, Bottle Brush, Harra, Kasia,  and others were planted by the teachers, students, and SMC members.  On the occasion, two Barr trees ( Ficus benghalensis ) in front of the school were declared “School Heritage Trees”. Speaking on this reporter Arjun Chettri, Senior Teacher of the school said the two Barr trees near the school building had been an identity of the school since long time and it was decided by the school staff to honour it with a heritage status....

RONGLI, MAY 23: Govt. Sec. School Lingtam, East Sikkim observed National Environment Awareness Campaign on the theme ‘Forest for Sustainable Livelihood’ at the school premises on 22 nd and 23 rd May on the occasion of International Biodiversity Day. The programme was attended by Dorjee Sherpa, Headmaster, teaching and non teaching staff of the school, CRC coordinator K P Dawari, Panchayat, SMC, SMDC members, local villagers and students of the school. In the first day of the programme, huge rally was carried out with posters, placards and banners from school via Lingtam bazaar that culminated at Lingtam Bridge. Cleaning of Lingtam bazaar, Panchayat Bhawan and weeding of planted trees along the roadside was done by the students. DALAPCHAND: Dalapchand SS celebrates Sikkim State Green Mission yesterday at school premises. Present on the occasion were ST Bhutia, Headmaster of the school, Prakash Poudyal, Green Teacher of the school, other teaching and non-teaching staffs and students. “Go Green” oath was also taken by the teachers and the students of the school. Governor Balmiki Prasad Singh and Chief Minister Pawan Chamling led the campaign from the forefront as thousands of Sikkimese people, army personnel, and paramilitary forces came forward and planted more than 6 lakhs saplings in any place of their choice today. SINGTAM: The effort of the mass plantation drive throughout the state of Sikkim was supported by the Burung Primary School here today. The entire students of the school along with staffs planted saplings across the school premises. In one of the rare greenery mission conceived by Chief Minister Pawan Chamling, the state Government has aimed for a world record in planting six lakhs sapling in 10 minutes. Speaking on the occasion NT Bhutia, Headmaster Burung Primary School told that he is pleased with such mission and hope that globally such initiatives shall benefit the human race. Bhutia also informed the gathered students about the importance of plantation and urged the students to help preserve environment. Similar plant drive was also reported from Shantinagar, Singtam by the Singtam Civil Defense along the river bed region that was heavily affected due to recent rise of river.
