Parasites, not Flu behind pigeon deaths

from Statesman GANGTOK, 25 JUNE: The Sikkim state animal husbandry department set at rest all the speculations doing rounds regarding bird flu outbreak in the wake of large scale pigeon deaths at Singtam in East Sikkim, saying that the pathological probe has ascribed deaths to some blood sucking parasites. According to Dr KC Bhutia, joint director, Disease Investigation Cell, state animal husbandry department, the investigation into the first batch of samples sent to the Regional Disease Diagnostics Laboratory of Guwahati, has attributed bacterial infection to the pigeon deaths. “The birds getting wet during the rains created conditions conducive for the parasites to breed,” Dr Bhutia said. 10,000 pigeon's death at Singtam is a false report.

I was going through the internet news about the diseased death of 10,000 pigeons at Singtam which is not at all correct. So far no exact data had been collected but as i had been following the death of these birds, according to me the death of these pigeons are below 4000. The mysterious death of the pigeons at Singtam Bazaar had started since early May and over the month the death of these avian had not stopped. Each day around 30-40 pigeons die. Is Bird Flu back......

Today i visited the Singtam Bazaar and was amazed to find that dead pigeons found scattered all around. People do say that these pigeon does have some sort of disease in their head and die within a day. The people do not deny that so-called Bird Flu might be back in the town but is also waiting for some inspection from the concern department too.
