In the highest sports arena, a mere participation is the biggest win for the participating individuals. You become a legend even if you get a bronze medal. The Indian Paralympic team achieved the greatest feat when they won 19 medals. In the past five Paralympic games India had won 12 medals with four gold medals. This year the Indian contingent had won 5 gold medals. A wonderful achievement overall!! Alike, Paralympics, we also have Special Olympics Summer Games organised by the International Olympic Committee. This is an International sporting event for the athletes with intellectual disabilities. Believe me when I say Sikkim had three winners from the Special Olympics making the nation proud. October 11 : Nirmal Dahal, 23 year old athlete from Sikkim has bagged a Gold medal in the event of Soft Ball Throw (SBT) in 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games, held at Shanghai Stadium on 9th October 2007.  His achievements  has brought glory not only to Sikkim state but also to the Nation. Dahal had participated at three events - 100mts, 50mts and softball. Pawan Chamling, the Chief Minister of Sikkim has congratulated Nirmal Chandra Dahal. He appreciated Dahal's exemplary courage and sportsmanship and also wished him best of luck for the other events in which he is participating. Dahal success will be a great source of inspiration to the youth and other sportspersons not only from Sikkim but the entire Nation.
