I shall always remain grateful for an opportunity granted to me to flip over pages of that epoch which is more of a dream come true. Over the last few years I have spent most of my time learning and understanding Sikkim, and it gives me pleasure to share what I know or what I listen to. I am more of a storyteller, those stories that got lost along the helm of time. This time around let me take you back to the year 1917, and the date reads 10 th of March. An official letter arrives at his Palace to His Highness Maharaja Tashi Namgyal of Sikkim. The letter inquires about naming the new Civil Hospital at Gangtok, which was ready for public use very shortly. CA Bell, Superintendent of Sikkim State, the writer of the letter writes that it occurred to him and a Civil Surgeon whether the hospital could be named in memory...

Pic: Internet I have always tried my best to be among the first few lines while visiting a doctor in a hospital. But on many occasions, I don’t have any option but to be in a long-standing queue.   It is an exciting finding that I read in the old Kanchenjunga magazine, dated 1966, of Gangtok Government Hospital about the wait in lines.  Some six decades back, hospitals had no wait lines as we see today.   People from far places in Sikkim used to drop by Gangtok Government Hospital at any hour of the day and make haywire for the doctors and the hospital staff. I am sharing those comments from the topic i had in Face book " Should STNM Hospital be shifted ?" Penzang Dorjee Lepcha hospitals should b easily accessible, but looking at the fact that the amount n the type of patients this hospital caters, i feel that it should be shifted.this hospi was built long time back keeping in view the number of public its going to serve then.   Sudip Pradhan i think the hospital shouldnt be shifted to Sabji Mandi (it was made for sabji and not human), rather it should have had to be renovated or properly built, proper medical equipment and good doctors had to be made available in the same place as it was the gift of our Choygal. -- The Gangtok city recently hosted the 1st All India Women's Football Championship for the Pem Dorjee Memorial Cup at Paljor Stadium from October 7th to 15th, 2009. The tournament featured seven state women's teams from Assam, Manipur, Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Orissa, Goa, and Sikkim. The Manipur girls emerged victorious, defeating Orissa in a tiebreaker by a score of three goals to two. While the tournament did not attract large crowds except for the finals, I was particularly interested in the individual after whom the tournament was named.
