  Today, I am sharing a historical shop rent receipt paid by my great-grandfather, Khadga Narayan Pradhan. This rare document takes us back to 1949, when Sikkim was still under the rule of the Chogyal. According to the receipt, the payment was made to the estate of Rai Saheb Rhenock Kaji Sanam Dadul, a member of the powerful hereditary nobility of Rhenock, in the eastern part of Sikkim. Khadga Narayan Pradhan had been a cardamom merchant and the tenant based in Rongli, which was on the way to the legendary Old Silk Route. The receipt specifically mentions "Dukan Kiraya" (Shop Rent), where he managed his famous "Elaichi Khazana" (Cardamom Warehouse), with the date November 1, 1949. The amount my great-grandfather then paid was 7 Rupees and 8 Annas for the month of October.

15.03.2025 : Among the 21 students participating in the 5th Shiv Lata Free Scholarship Examination 2025, Master Arluv Gurung and Miss Yankey Gurung successfully passed the scholarship exam. Both students received certificates of achievement, school bags, exercise copies, books, and a set of school and house dresses during the function at Riverine Elementary School, Melatar, Rongli. The scholarship prioritizes students who have completed class V and belong to the BPL category, with support from the Shiv Lata family. Shiva Narayan Pradhan, a former teacher at a school in Rongli (now known as Kumari Pema Tseduen Secondary School), has been instrumental in its establishment. The selected students will be able to avail themselves of free education at Riverine Elementary School for classes VI-VIII.

10.09.23, Singtam - The town of Rongli came alive with the spirited participation of Newar communities from various corners of Sikkim in the joyous Bhimsen Puja and Jatra festivities. The event, marked by exuberance and cultural fervor, witnessed a procession of Newar community members clad in traditional attire, dancing joyfully with Lakhey dancers from Bhimsen Mandir to the Melatar Community Hall in Rongli. 11.03.23: Among the sixteen students participating in the 3rd Shiv Lata Free Scholarship Examination 2023, Master Awkash Mishra and Miss Astina Thami were selected. Both students received certificates of achievement, school bags, copies, and new session books at a function at Riverine Elementary School, Melatar, Rongli.  Padam Raj Mishra and Seman Thami, parents of the awardee students were also offered khadas.  The scholarship is for the students of the BPL category and is supported by the Shiv Lata family. RONGLI, 8TH DECEMBER 2021 : Inaugural ceremony of Losoong Knockout Football Tournament 2021-2022 organized by Rongli Development Group gets started from today. The tournament shall be held from December 8 th till January 2 nd , 2022. The cash prizes of the finalists are Rs. 200000 and Rs. 100000 with trophies.   February 18, Singtam: Road Safety Month campaign was observed by Chujachen SSS at Rongli bazaar on February 17. Thirty students had participated in different activities held during the program.  Rally was held at Rongli bazaar where students shared important messages through placards. Road safety awareness skit was also performed by the students of Chujachen SSS. The students were escorted by following teachers – Sagar Rai, Ratan Tamang and Anita Sharma.
