Delhi BJP leaders call on Sikkim Lok Sabha MP PD Rai

PRESS RELEASE Press Secretary Office of PD Rai, Lok Sabha MP for Sikkim Senior leaders of the BJP’s Delhi state unit Shri Sanjeev Sharma, Shri KM Gupta and Councilor Archana Gupta called on Sikkim Lok Sabha MP PD Rai here today (June 20, 2014) at his residence at Tadong. They exchanged views on several important issues and appreciated the governance of the State under the leadership of Shri Pawan Chamling. Earlier the BJP leaders had visited Nathula and in their meeting with Rai, they expressed that there is great potential for the State in the tourism sector. Demand for Gorkhaland if Bill not cleared

Statesman News Service SILIGURI, Dec. 7: The Gorkha National Liberation Front has resolved to revive the demand for a separate Gorkhaland state in case the Centre failed to clear the Darjeeling Sixth Schedule Bill in the next session of Parliament. The resolution was adopted at the GNLF's branch committee meetings, held simultaneously in Darjeeling, Kurseong, Kalimpong and Mirik today. While the meeting in Darjeeling held was presided over by the branch committee president, Mr Deepak Gurung, at Kurseong, Kalimpong and Mirik the meetings were chaired by Mr Indra Narayan Pradhan, Mr Dawa Pakhrin and Mr LB Rai, respectively. “All the branch committees have unanimously resolved to serve the Centre an ultimatum for it to clear the Bill in the next session of the Parliament, failing which, the GNLF would revive the agitation for a separate Gorkhaland state,” Mr Deepak Gurung said. BJP REFUTES SDF's CLAIMS ON DECENTRALISATION OF POWER TO PANCHAYATS

GANGTOK, June 13: The State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today claimed that the SDF Government had failed to extend power and authority to the Panchayats under 11th Schedule of the Constitution vis-à-vis Article 243G of the Constitution of India. According to a press release issued here today, the BJP said that the SDF’s claim that it decentralized the powers to Panchayats and gave 33 percent reservation to women “is nothing but implementation of the Article 243 of the Constitution of India.” “Article 243D and 243T clearly stipulates that one third of the seats shall be reserved for women. However the SDF failed to give power and authority to the Panchayat which is entitled under Schedule 11 of the Constitution, vis-à-vis Article 243G of the Constitution,” the press release read. BJP INVITES DELIMITATION NOTICE PUBLISHED

GANGTOK, May 28: The Sikkim state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today proposed the Chief Secretary to the government of Sikkim and Secretary to the Urban Development and Housing Department to publish the notification delimiting the wards of Gangtok Municipal Corporation in local newspapers. The party also called for copies of the same to all political parties of the state and the Panchayat of the areas that are being converted from Panchayat under the Rural Department to Municipality under the Urban Department besides having a provision of public hearing before the final delimitation. The notification delimiting the wards of Gangtok Municipal Corporation, Singtam, Rangpo, Jorethang-Nayabazar, Namchi Municipal Council, and Mangan, Pakyong, Rhenok, Rongli, Ravangla, Soreng, Geyzing, and Pelling Nagar Panchayat was reportedly issued on May 22.
