I came across this fascinating document on social media, shared by the National Archives of India, a rare glimpse into a pivotal moment in Sikkim's history. On 10th April 1975, the Sikkim Assembly unanimously adopted a historic Resolution that changed the course of the state's future. The Resolution condemned the Chogyal’s attempts to restore autocratic rule, stating these actions violated the May 8, 1973, Agreement and stood against the democratic will of the people. In a powerful declaration, the Assembly stated: “The institution of the Chogyal is hereby abolished and Sikkim shall henceforth be a constituent unit of India, enjoying a democratic and fully responsible Government.” This marked the beginning of a new chapter, with Sikkim becoming the 22nd state of the Indian Union.   In a citizen-friendly move to simplify administrative procedures, the Government of Sikkim, through a notification dated 6th August 2018 (No. 52/Home/2018), has allowed self-attestation of documents for most purposes. Issued by the Home Department and published in the Gazette on 11th August 2018, this notification aligns with the 12th report of the Second Administrative Reforms Commission, emphasising "Citizen Centric Administration – The Heart of Governance." Applicants can now submit self-attested copies of documents for admission in educational institutions and for employment in government departments, provided they can read and understand the documents. However, documents like the Sikkim Subject Certificate, Certificate of Identification, Residential Certificate, and Land Records still require verification by designated magistrates or gazetted officers from the Land Revenue and Disaster Management Department.   Gangtok, April 22, 2025: The Government of Sikkim has declared a three-day State of mourning following the death of His Holiness Pope Francis, Supreme Pontiff of the Holy See, on April 21, 2025. As per the official notification issued by the Home Department, State mourning will be observed throughout Sikkim on April 22 (Tuesday) and April 23 (Wednesday). An additional day of mourning will be observed on the day of the funeral, the date of which will be communicated later. During the mourning period, the National Flag will be flown at half-mast wherever it is flown regularly, and there will be no official entertainment. The order, issued in the governor's name, was signed by R. Telang, IAS, the Chief Secretary to the Government of Sikkim.

State Govt. notification Message from the Governor of Sikkim The Chief Minister of Sikkim and the Governor of Sikkim have expressed deep grief in the passing of the Lata Mangeskar, the legendary singer of Indian Cinema. The state have released a notification to observe two days mourning where no entertainment event shall be held on these two days and the national flag shall remain in half mast.

 

  Preparations have been made to operate schools in Sikkim which have been closed for a long time due to the epidemic. The Department of Education has today issued a departmental circular regarding the normal operation of classes 9 to 12 from September 6. Instructions have been issued to the schools through this circular to operate the schools following the health standards related to COVID. After many months, all the people of Sikkim are waiting to hear the melodious sound of the school bell again.
