SINGTAM, APRIL 04:   Pawan Chamling , President of Sikkim Democratic Front, officially launched seven short films on  politics  at the Rorathang public meet.  Four of the short films were directed by  Praja Pradhan , a Sang Nazitam-based filmmaker, while the other three ,  titled Sikkim Darpan, were directed by  Uttam Pradhan, a  famed actor from Sikkim. Speaking on the occasion, Praja Pradhan said he is lucky to be part of a successful SDF party, and each of the short films is based on supporting the party that is for the people of Sikkim and for the people of Sikkim. Artists of the shirt films included Dilip Raimajhi, Uttam Pradhan, Praja Pradhan, Ram Sharma and others. The films were shot in different locales of Sikkim, added Pradhan.

 from Sikkim Express GANGTOK February 16: The first Lok Sabha member from Sikkim, SK Rai passed away today morning at his residence here at 6th Mile, Tadong after a prolonged illness. Rai was a member of the Parliament from 1975 to 1979 from the Sikkim Congress Party under the LD Kazi government. A condolence meeting was held at the SDF party office here at Indira Bypass chaired by party vice-president KB Chamling to condole the death of Rai, a distinguished personality in the Sikkimese society and an important member of the ruling front. The meeting also deliberated on the life of late Rai and his contributions to the Sikkimese society. The party extended its deep condolences to the bereaved family and held a two minute silence to mourn the passing away of Rai, a SDF press release states. Popularly known as L. D. Kazi, became the first Chief Minister of Sikkim in 1975 thus ending over three century old monarchy system. He became the 1st Chief Minister of Sikkim on 14 MAY, 1975 - 17 AUGUST, 1979. He was born in 1904 in Pakyong, East District. A fonuder President of Sikkim Praja Mandal, established in 1946. Later he became the President of Sikkim State Congress and held the post till 1958. In 4th general election held in 1970, Kazi was appointed an Executive Councilor and was assigned the portfolio of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry and Transport Authority. Under his presidency in 1973, the united party secured 31 out of 32 seats of State Assembly and became the first Chief Minister of Sikkim in 1974. He was married to Elisa-Maria Standford in 1968, daughter of a Belgian father and German mother who left her Scottish husband in Burma and married LD Kaji in Delhi in 1957.
