GANGTOK, JULY 7:   Sushen Pradhan, son of Shri T.B. Pradhan and Smt. D.K. Pradhan of Development Area, Gangtok has completed his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Biotechnology from Guwahati University on June 30. His topic was “Development of tissue culture system for in vitro regeneration, biochemical and molecular characterization of ginger varieties grown in Sikkim”. Pradhan was under the guidance of Prof. P.J. Handique, Guwahati University. Pradhan in his press release has acknowledged his family, Dr. B.C. Basistha (Additional Director), Department of Science and Technology & Climate Change and all the people who directly and indirectly supported him for the completion of his research work. Mr Sudash Dhakal, PGT, Geography at Mangan senior secondary school has been awarded with a PhD degree by the University of Pune.  Dr Dhakal joined th e school last year in the month of June after submitting his PhD thesis. He probably is the first student from Sikkim to complete PhD in Physical Geography.

from Sikkim Express Yasoda Sharma, a resident of Gangtok, Sikkim and currently a PhD student and Adjunct Faculty at the University of Texas at Arlington, TX has been conferred the highest ranking academic award from the university. The award officially known as the Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges program will be conferred to her in the Academic Excellence day of the School of Social Work on the 16 th of April. Coming from a humble background of a business family, Yasoda had completed a Masters in Social Work from the prestigious Banaras Hindu University in the year 2001.
