  Felicitates Journalist Sanjay Agarwal and Educationist KB Chettri Singtam, October 5 : The 79th birth anniversary of NB Bhandari, former Chief Minister of Sikkim was observed by members of Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti, Singtam. A short felicitation program and distribution of certificates and mementos of Nepali Bhasa Diwas was presented. Sanjay Agarwal and KB Chettri were the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour of the program. Dr. Bhumika Dulal was the Special Guest. The program started by observing two minute silence on the passing away of Dr. AH Khan, Advisor of SGSS. Dr. Khan was a popular physician and known to all for his simplicity.   He was a sportsperson and had shown his skill in cricket and badminton. BB Lal was the first governor of the state of Sikkim. He was in office from 18 th  May 1975 till 9 th  January 1981.  Interestingly, the magazine cut-off reads BB Lal was given a warm farewell on December 30, 1980, in the presence of NB Bhandari, the then Chief Minister of Sikkim. The photograph mentioned above is the last one to be clicked in Sikkim. He then left for Nainital, which is now in Uttrakhand.   He became the first governor of Sikkim to have his residence at the heritage building of the British residency, which was also known as Barra Khoti and is now more popular as Raj Bhavan. LD Kazi was the Chief Minister of Sikkim when Lal started his tenure as the Governor of Sikkim. Before 1975, Sikkim was an independent Himalayan monarchy ruled by Namgyal Dynasty. VP Singh, the then Prime Minister of India had visited Sikkim in 1990 a few months before his fall from PM post. He lost the vote of no confidence when BJP had withdrawn support. NB Bhandari was the Chief Minister of Sikkim during that time. The above photographs were taken at Gangtok found on the website of ‘My Old Arndt Lilley’. VP Singh was at office from 2 nd December 1989 till 10th November 1990. His prime ministerial tenure lasted for 343 days. He died on 27 November 2008, at the age of 77.

Sikkim Sangram Parishad, regional political party in Sikkim was formed in 1984, when NB Bhandari, leader of Sikkim Janta Parishad dissolved his old party to form a new one. The SSP Party went on to win two state elections in 1984 and 1989 - winning all 32 seats in the house.  After losing two consecutive state elections to Sikkim Democratic Front, Bhandari merged SSP with Indian National Congress and became the President of Sikkim Pradesh Congress Committee (SPCC) in 2004. Bhandari later in 2013 revived SSP again. After the death of NB Bhandari in 2017, his wife Dil Kumari Bhandari became the President of Sikkim Sangram Parishad. July 17: Members of Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti held a condolence meeting at the premises of LN Pradhan, Advisor SGSS’s residence to pay homage to the passing away of Shree N B Bhandari, former Chief Minister of Sikkim. Two minute silence was observed on the moment after lighting the candle by the head monk of Karma Thujee Choeling Monastery, Shantinagar under the guidance of President of SGSS, Shri Krishna Chettri.  T B Pradhan, Advisor SGSS addressed the gathering that included advisors, executive members, monks of Karma Thujee Choeling Monastary, Shantinagar, senior citizens and other members. Chettri said, we share the deep sadness with the family members and wish that almighty god give them strength to come out of this grievous moment.

Gangtok, Mar 20 (PTI) Sikkim Congress President and Former Chief Minister Nar Bahadur Bhandari has rebuffed the state government's proposal to name a road in his honour. "I have outrightly rejected the Pawan Kumar Chamling government's proposal to name the Buduan-Soreng Road in West Sikkim as Nar Bahadur Bhandari Marg and told them to refrain from offering such token gesture," he told reporters here. The state government, at a cabinet meeting held on March nine last, had decided to name the Budang-Soreng Road in West Sikkim after Bhandari in recognition of his contribution, and had directed the Home department to seek the latter's consent proposal for the same. Accordingly, the Home department Additional Secretary S K Pradhan had written a letter to Bhandari on March 12 seeking his consent for naming the road, but the former Chief Minister firmly replied the proposal was "not acceptable".

from samaylive Sikkim's former chief minister and head of the Congress' state unit Nar Bahadur Bhandari was hospitalised Thursday after he fainted and complained of breathing problems. Bhandari was rushed to the Central Referral Hospital at Tadong Thursday morning in a semi-conscious state and admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU). Hospital authorities said the former chief minister, who is a diabetic, was also suffering from hypertension. According to sources, Bhandari might have had a mild cardiac arrest. He could be referred to a hospital outside the state. He had fainted while talking to Congress leaders in Delhi. "Age has caught up on him and he said he felt very weak and collapsed, it is then we put him into the vehicle and brought him to the hospital," said one of his close associates, adding Bhandari had not been keeping too well since the day the results were declared.

I would like to make a slight correction at the below article that Mr. Pawan Kumar Chamling 's father's name is Ash Bahadur Rai and her mother's name is Ash Maya Rai. Mr. Pawan Kumar Chamling was born in 1950 , he is not a class 5 drop out but had finished class X.
