I had been writing on different topics related to Sikkim for the last 10 years. From flipping over the pages of Sikkim heritage to Sikkim royal family, from century-old Sikkim Postal History to Shapi, and today we will talk about an unusual plant species. Rather a strange case, at least to me and a few of my friends with whom I share the photographs. This was something weird, never reported or heard before. I was thrilled to find this particular banana species growing along the National Highway while on the way to Gangtok a few days back. On that particular day near Orange Village Resort, there was a long queue of vehicles where an army vehicle had collided with a Bolero.   This was something strange for me but more than that very excited when i first saw this particular species while going to Gangtok today. There was a jam of vehicles where the army vehicle had collided with a Bolero near Sikkim University. Our vehicle was in the queue near Ranipool LPG storage where i came across this banana species planted in-front of a nearby residence. I had never come across such banana with its flower and fruits growing upward. I searched at internet about this strange species, there was nothing exactly i could find but this species finds close resemblance with musa ornata, a banana species of Indian origin,

New Heaven Dance Institute, Singtam, East Sikkim is all set to come with state-level dance competition “Sikkim Dance Ka Maha Mukabla” to nurture the local promising talents within the state to the national level under the banner of Red Panda Rover Crew, Singtam. “Sikkim Dance Ka Maha Mukabla” is to begin on June 10, 2010, at Gorkha Dharamsala, Singtam. The dance competition shall feature junior and senior groups. The junior dance competition shall have participants below 14 years and feature solo dance while for the senior category, the competition participants should be above 14-24 years and they have to compete in a group dance. A group dance category shall feature 9 participants.  Winners of the Junior Category shall be rewarded with Rs 10,000 while the first runner-up shall be presented with Rs 5,000 along with trophies and certificates respectively.  by Sanjay Agarwal 21-day Winter camp organized by Denzong Baha’i Institute of Sikkim began on 20th December 2009 at Baha’i School, Tadong. The camp will go till 9 th January 2010. The participants are from Sumbuk (South Sikkim), Pachey (Pakyong) and Gangtok. A camp of this kind was first started at Saramsa (Ranipool) in December 2000 by the Denzong Baha’i Institute of Sikkim. The participants were from Bhutan, Darjeeling, and Sikkim then. But in the later years to make it convenient and manageable the Institute decided to decentralize   it and have it in different centers. For the past three or four years, for the people of Darjeeling, it has been organized in Darjeeling itself and for Sikkim in Sikkim itself. This is a spiritual empowerment program.
