from  http://haalkhabar.in Gangtok, February 21, 2011: A Sikkimese blog “ Proud to be Sikkimese ”  http://sikhim.blogspot.com/  has won the second spot at two separate categories of the Best of Indian Blogosphere (BoIB) 2010 polls.  Proud to be Sikkimese , a blog that focuses on news and history of Sikkim State was nominated along with nine other blogs from Indian States under the category  Arts & Hobby Blogs  and  Entertainment, News & Media  for the final round. Online voting was conducted from January 22, 2010 till February 13 th , 2010 that resulted in the selection of top five winners. “It is indeed a proud moment for me to achieve second spot in Best of Indian Blogosphere 2010 polls. My triumph is a tribute towards those personalities who had their roles in the history of Sikkim”, said blogger of sikhim.blogspot.com Shital Pradhan.

My fascination with Sikkim History started in early 2003 after I completed my graduation from Sikkim Government College, Tadong where I joined the famed newspaper Weekend Review at Gangtok and since then there is no looking back for me. Over the last seven years I am fortunate to have my articles published in reputed newspapers and magazines of Sikkim and few from North Bengal too. My query to know more about the Sikkim’s past made me visit different corners of the state. Visiting those sacred places I find myself blessed to have born to this place, a heaven on earth. Blogging for me started in 2005; as a result “ Proud to be a Sikkimese ” was born. 1727- the first map of Sikkim Hi.....it was really a nice and wonderful journey with people across the globe wanted to know more about our Sikkim. I was asked many a times to move to dot com but it was something or the other that was keeping me off. Since i am working on it, i have made it to launch my website from November 23rd, 2009. Now that i am yet to come up with the proper name, i would like my well wishers and my blog readers to help me choose a proper name.... I have dedicated my website to Sikkim and would like to bring back the glory hours of Sikkim from its bed of past.  I never knew my small time passion about understanding Sikkim would bring me to this moment that it would today be my primary concern. It is just an another irony of life that i am not qualified to be a Sikkim Historian....

Sikkim is one such place in India. Its the place which inspires, Shital Pradhan , to write his blog and he writes average more than one post a day. Now thats what is called truely inspirational. I just googled "Sikkim" and the images which showed up really made me sit-up in awe. No wonder it the state recieves high percentage of tourism visiting India. And this blog is Encyclopedia (or Wikipedia) of Sikkim. A perfect blog on one's homeland, a place which we all love, but often forget to give its due.

Since yesterday i was having trouble with the types of template i tried to fit my choice. After more than 15 odd templates (well i tried all of them from single template to 2 and 3 column templates) finally i settle with the one that i am writing now. Believe me that puppy is not mine and i hope to replace it with other photograph. I had been using the old template for some time and i wanted to entertain my readers with a different feel too. Hope you people like it. When i started blogging i had read many blogs where majority of the blogger had written their personal accounts but when i compare it to mine, i had tried my best to share my limited knowledge about Sikkim with others. I believe more i share more i learn about it. The best example of it was the story of AC3PT, when i first published its story i never thought i would find many takers for it but behind it i never realized there was two other call sign that had been activated from Sikkim. I am sure there are thousands of readers worldwide who read this article of mine and yet we do not know each other. One of the primary reasons to start a blog was to reach the furthest of the poles. I want to make new friends and learn about different cultures and traditions but could be that I am not able to connect my way of writing to their thoughts. When I had newly joined Weekend Review as a newspaper reporter sometime back in 2003 my mentor Mr. Sujit Chakraborty used to tell me.  "When you write an article, do make it a point to write it in that way in which you like to read.” The same theory has been with me since then, whenever I write an article I keep in mind it should be the easiest even if the layman could never have any difficulty reading it.
