A Paint the Change Contest was organized by WWF – India in collaboration with Sikkim University for generating awareness on Earth Hour on March 12, 2010 at Sikkim Government College and Namchi Public School. Earth Hour is a global event wherein people around the world voluntarily switch off their lights for an hour to show their concern about climate change.   68 participants coming from 12 schools, five colleges and Sikkim University took part in the contest at Gangtok, and 38 students from seven schools and two colleges at Namchi, wherein they painted on the issue of climate change and its impacts they observed around them in Sikkim. A total of 100 meritorious students from all over India are invited every year to witness the Republic Day Parade from the Prime Minister’s Box. A moment of great prestige and recognition for the two year old Sikkim University this year as two of its students have been selected to witness the parade from the Prime Minister’s Box. Sikkim University condemns the act of violence and vandalism at the Sikkim University administrative complex by the leaders of the Student Representative Council of Sikkim Government, Tadong on the evening of 28 th March, 2009. This act of violence was carried out by students who are not even students of Sikkim University. They are the second and third year students and are enrolled with the North Bengal University. This act of violence was carried out late in the evening of 28 th March, 2009, even after the first year (2 nd semester) students of Sikkim University had accepted the solution generously proposed by Sikkim University to accommodate the students who had failed even after the large scale reevaluation that was carried out by the University.
