Manjushri Public School visits Sakyong Chisopani JHS

SINGTAM, JULY 22:  For the second successive year the two schools, Manjushri Public School, Temi Tarku and Sakyong Chisopani JHS, East Sikkim had an interexchange school program. The Thirty-member school team of Manjushri Public School guided by Sudipta Khan, Jalpana Khan, and Abinash Gurung, teachers visited Sakyong Chisopani JHS on July 17, 2015. Football match (boys), Kho-Kho (girls), and exhibitions of pencil sketch and stamps was the highlight of the day.

A program was organized by Sakyong Chisopani JHS at its premises hosted by Pemala Bhutia. Mahesh Dahal, Headmaster of the school in his welcome speech appreciated the presence of Manjushri Public School for the second successive year at the school and wished that this bridge of relationship shall be carried on in near future too. Pencil sketch by Roshan Rai, an artist from Singtam, and stamp exhibition by Shital Pradhan, a teacher was organized that was highly appreciated by the visiting school. 

Nimesh Dahal, from Singtam finalist at Cultural Competition organized by SDF party at Gangtok presented a musical presentation on guitar.

Kho-Kho match between girls of Manjushri Public School and Sakyong Chisopani JHS was a close game that Sakyong Chisopani JHS eventually went on to win. Sita Gurung of Sakyong Chisopani was adjudged the Best Player of the match while Prashansa Basnet from Manjushri Public School was awarded the Promising Player trophy.

The 2nd Chisopani-Manjushri friendly exhibition football match between the two schools had a nail-biting finish. The boys of Manjushri Public School won the winner trophy in a tri-breaker. The match ended with a two-goal each from both sides.  The extra time game also went with a goal each from both sides. Ultimately, Manjushri Public School won the match in the penalty shootout. Prizes were awarded at the end of the day. Hissey Wangchuk and Loonam Heem Rai from Manjushri Public School were announced the Highest goal scorer of the match (3 goals) and Best Goalkeeper of the match while Sanjeev Gurung from the home school bagged the Best Player of the Match trophy.

Sudipta Khan, the visiting teacher appreciated the hospitality of the school for organizing such an event. The cordial relationship shared between a government school and a public school is very rare to find, he added. Khan further thanked Yogesh Gurung, Sports teacher Sakyong Chisopani JHS for his active presence in bringing the two schools closer.

Nepali literary writer Mohan Pradhan ‘Neeraj” felicitated at Singtam Bhanu Jayanti

SINGTAM, JULY 19: Mohan Pradhan ‘Neeraj’, Nepali literary writer was honoured at 201st Bhanu Jayanti Celebration at Singtam. Somanth Poudhyal, Agriculture Minister cum Area MLA, Singtam – Khamdong Constituency presented a shawl and a felicitation letter to Mohan Pradhan ‘Neeraj’. Also present on the occasion were CK Shrestha, dramatist, Am Prasad Sharma, former MLA, Deo Kumar Dumi, TB Pradhan, Sawan Pradhan and others.
Mohan Pradhan ‘Neeraj’ was felicitated for his contribution towards Nepali literature and encouraging youngsters towards the field of culture and literature irrespective of geographical boundaries. Neeraj is the Sansthapak of Singtam Basibiyalo that has been a platform for youngsters for over a decade; he is also the publisher and editor of nepali literary magazine ‘Hatar’ and ‘Sanjiwani’ published from Singtam.
Neeraj in his speech has thanked the Bhanu Jayanti Celebration Committee; he further went on to say this recognition holds a special place in his heart. There had been appreciations within the state and beyond but this is for the first time, my home town has remembered me and this honour shall always remain close to my heart, said Neeraj.

The other major highlight of the event was the felicitation of meritious students of class x and xii. The official logo of Sikkim Academy of Music (SAM) was also released on the day. A musical fusion of Guitar and Tabla by Sonam Waiba and Dinesh Dahal was highly appreciated. The musical fusion was attempted for the very first time in Sikkim, where Sonam Waiba created the sound of sitar from his guitar. The Bagpiper School Band performed by the students of Sirwani SS was the biggest discovery of the 201st Bhanu Jayanti Celebration at Singtam.

Bhanu Jayanti Celebration meeting held

SINGTAM, JULY 5: Second phase meeting of the Bhanu Jayanti Celebration of Singtam was held today at Community Hall. Matters of importance for preparation of the celebration were discussed among the Committee members.
Apart from poetry competition, Ramayan path competition and Folk dance competition this year Bhanu Jayanti at Singtam shall witness few new programs, informed Mohan Pradhan ‘Neeraj’, General Secretary of Bhanu Jayanti Celebration Committe. Pradhan informed the gathered members about presence of CK Shrestha, noted nepali literary figure among invited guests, other than that there would be , special presentation of Bagpiper Pipe Band from Sirwani SS, revival of ‘Gau khaney katha’ as a half hour entertainment program, mixed community costume show and others.
It was further informed that Sikkim Express, Voice of Sikkim, Proud to be a Sikkimese, would be the official media partners while Kreative Recreation and Mircrotech would be doing publicity and branding. A facebook page on Singtam Bhanu Jayanti Celebration was also informed.
Speaking on the occasion, Sundar Rai, Program Coordinator, Bhanu Jayanti Celebration Committee informed about the list of participants at different competitions. Rai informed the crowd the audition dates for the competition would be on 9th and 11th with Ramayan Path and Poetry recitation of the former days and cultural competition on the latter date.


Other people to speak on the occasion included TB Pradhan, Vice President, Bhanu Jayanti Celebration Committee. Jayashree Chettri, Advisor, Bhanu Jayanti Celebration Committee, Sarita Subba, Coordinator, Ramayan Path competition, and Ranju Lamichaney, Coordinator Culture competition.
