Power Point Presentation Inter House Competition makes debut in Sikkim School




RONGLI, AUGUST 31:  In an innovative inter house activity held at Riverine Elementary School, Melatar, Rongli a Power Point Presentation Competition was held on August 31.  The students of four houses i.e. Radhakrishna, Abdul Kalam, Mother Teresa and Kalpana Chawla participated at the competition that was judged by Gridhar Dawari, Headmaster Chadaney Primary School, Bhim Pradhan, Teacher, Rongli SS and Biki Rai, Principal Riverine Elementary School. DN Pradhan, Retired Government Teacher was the Chief Guest of the day.



Programme started with the welcoming and offering of khadas to the Chief Guests by School Principal. Santosh Rai, Vice- Principal of the school was the host of the day. All the participants presented the Slide-Shows and presented their topic highly appreciated by the gathered audience.



Megna Gurung, Chopel Lepcha and Pranik Chettri representing Radhakrishna House won the competition. The teacher guides of the house were Kesang Lhamu Sherpa and Bhawana Gurung. Phurmit Lepcha representing Mother Teresa house was selected the Best Presenter. She was guided by her House Teacher Indira Pradhan and Ganga Rai. The students of Kalpana Chawla stood second in the competition. Those students were guided by Anisha Pradhan and Radhika Pradhan. Sita Sharma, Indira Darnal and Nehal Das were the House Teachers of Abdul Kalam House.

Speaking on the occasion the Chief Guest appreciated the efforts of the school for coming up with innovative thoughts to have an all round development of the students. He also presented the winners with trophies and certificates.

Sikkim shooting daughters’ bags 4 gold for Ecoles





SINGTAM, AUGUST 26: Two girls from Sikkim, Tussita Rai bagged three gold and silver and Devanshi Agarwal bagged gold and two silver for their Ecole Globale International Girl’s School, Dehradun.  The girls was among the shooting team of Ecoles that was participating at the 16th Uttarakhand Inter School State Shooting Championship held at Rana Shooting Range from 16th to 18th August. The shooting team of Ecole bagged a total of 56 medals, comprising of 34 Gold, 15 Silver and 7 Bronze medals.
Tussita Rai is from Gangtok and a daughter of CB Rai while Devanshi Agarwal is a daughter of Sanket Agarwal from Singtam.

Rongli celebrates Bhimsen Jatra for prosperity


RONGLI, AUGUST 26: Newar Devotees from different part of Sikkim gathered at Rongli to witness the first Bhimsen Jatra held at Sikkim on August 24.  Those devotees participated at the religious functions and offered prayers at the 117 year old Bhimsen Mandir that was held early in the morning followed by the Jatra (procession) that started from the mandir till the army camp at the entrance to the Rongli bazaar.  The mandir rituals was conducted by Shri Suryavir Tuladar, Rimpoche Atul Sakya and Shree Alankar Sakya
 


Newar members of different Newar Guthis, Newar Sakhas, Newar Zones, Newar Organisation and different communities participated at the Jatra. Bhimsen is a god of welfare of business, prosperity and good fortune; he is regarded the highest god among the Newar Community.



The devotees carried the idol of God Bhimsen on a chariot that was put on shoulder poles and moved around the town. Newari traditional music and instruments was played along the procession. The major highlight of the day was also the debut of Lakhey Dance at the streets of Rongli. 



Arun Upretti, Minister of Urban & Housing development, Food & Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs was the Chief Guest on the occasion while other distinguished guests included Dilu Maskay, President Sikkim Newar Guthi, Damber Pradhan, Incharge – 20 Chujachen Constituency, Bikram Pradhan, Former MLA and others.


A culture program was also held on the occasion by the members of Newa Passa Rongli while Rudra Narsing Sakya spoke about the origin and the significance of Shree Bhimsen Mandir. Chief Guest was presented with a souvenir of the event. Bhim Pradhan, BDO, Regu BAC gave the vote of thanks and express gratitude towards every Newar organisation from Sikkim and beyond Sikkim for their participation. He also thanked members of different communities for their auspicious presence in making the event successful.



Kush Narayan Pradhan, President Shri Bhimsen Maharaj Mandir Sanrakshan Samiti speaking at the moment said the blessings of God Bhimsen showers upon every Newars and to the people of Sikkim. He said, this was a historic moment and we, the people of Rongli were the chosen ones and we wish to carry forward our good work towards our community in the coming days too.

Nepali Bhasa Diwas celebrated at Shantinagar


SINGTAM, AUGUST 19:  27th Nepali Bhasa Manyata Diwas was observed by Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti today. Shyam Rai, Additional Director, Food Department and Raj K Shrestha, Senior Nepali literary figure was the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour for the day. KB Chettri, Principal, Singtam SSS also graced the occasion as Guest of Honour along with his two Nepali Language teachers and forty students.


Other distinguished guests included Somnath Pandey, President, Sadbhawana Samiti, Nandu Dutraj, Senior news reporter, Johny Rai, Singtam social media, Bhimraj Ghimiray and others. LN Pradhan, Chief Advisor of SGSS was the host of the day while Krishna Chettri, President SGSS gave the welcome speech.

Highlight of the day was Nepali poem recitations and culture programmes. Nishant Dulal, Lokesh Mukhia, Surya Kharel and Shital Pradhan recited poems appreciated by the crowds. Norsang Tamang, Ayushman Chettri and Aditi Pokhrel sang beautiful songs while Paruna Subba presented a solo dance. Traditional music player Bhanu Pohkrel from Shantinagar presented his music with sarangi, marchunga and Murali. Late Lakhidevi Sundas, popular Nepali writer and Sahitya Akademi winner was also paid respect with two minute silence. 


Talks on struggle of Nepali language movement and its status till date were spoken by different speakers. Quiz competition related to Nepali language was also held for students and the audiences. Maiya Chettri and Sunita Gurung, both members of Shantinagar Gain Sudhar Samiti was presented with mementos for their donation of LPG cylinder, Chullah and 30 numbers of GIC sheets towards the Samiti. The participants of the program were also presented with mementos and certificates.

Former Headmaster Mahesh Dahal felicitated at Chisoapni JHS IDay

73rd Independence Day was celebrated at Sakyong Chisopani JHS. The highlight of the day was March Past by School students along with a patriotic dance presentation. Action song dance and drill by the junior section were highly appreciated by the crowds. 


Mahesh Dahal, former Headmaster of the school was felicitated on the occasion towards the all-around development of the school in his tenure. 


TB Rai, a former panchayat was the Chief Guest of the day while Ramesh Gurung,  Ward Panchayat was the Guest of honour. Other guests present on the occasion were PB Tamang, SMC Advisor, SMC President, and others.

Stella Subba, former student recited a poem with a social message. In an exhibition football match between the teams of Primary and Upper Primary was won by Primary Team in a penalty shoot-out.

73RD ID celebrated at Shantinagar


SINGTAM, AUGUST 15: Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti celebrated the 73rd Independence Day with joy and enthusiasm.  The highlight of the day was felicitation of nine individuals in and around Singtam on fields like service towards national/state, sports, health and social service.

LP Chettri, retired Divisional Engineer, Power Department, Government of Sikkim was the Chief Guest of the occasion. Deepa Chettri, Shantinagar Panchayat and Deu Kri. Pradhan were the Guest of honour.

Krishna Chettri, President SGSS gave the welcome speech while Shital Pradhan was the host of the day and Dhiraj Pradhan gave vote of thanks.

Amisha Bishwakarma, Aditi Pokhrel and Ayushman Chettri, students of nearby schools of Singtam sand patriotic songs. The felicitated individuals included KB Baniya (retired army), Son Bdr Tamang (retired police official), Palzor Tshering Bhutia (Social Service), Parshuram Chettri (Baidhya), Ganesh Chettri (Yoga Guru), Bhuwan Sharma (Blood Donor), Pritam Shilal (Boxing Coach), Sangay Bhutia (JVC Football Academy), Bijay Pradhan (Howler Football Academy).

Five gold medalists from Pritam Shilal Boxing Centre were also presented with certificate for their win at recently concluded 17th Sikkim State Boxing Championship.
