Samaj Deusi Celebrated by SGSS

October 31, SINGTAM: Members of Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti collectively played Deusi to conserve and preserve the rich old tradition of hindu culture. More than thirty members met at the premises of Mohan Sunar, former President of SGSS’s residence. He was also the Gharpatti of the day. Dew Kumari Pradhan, senior most members of SGSS was the chairperson of the day. 

Other distinguished persons present on the day included LN Pradhan, T B Pradhan, LP Chettri, KN Dulal, KB Sundas, Shankhar Lamichanay, Anita Sewa, BB Tamang, NK. Sundas, Achen Lepcha and others executive body and members. Krishna Chettri, President, SGSS gave a brief speech about the Deusi program. He also gave information about the materials added towards the samaj through the collection of last year's Deusi program. Those singers involved at the Deusi singing included Mohan Sunar, Gopal Subba, Ayushman Chettri, Sonam Tamang, Anita Sewa.

Singer Geeta Sharma given warm welcome at Rangpo







SINGTAM, OCTOBER 25: Singer Geeta Sharma, participant at Voice of Nepal - Season II was given a warm welcome at Rangpo Guest House. She was welcomed by the members of Newa Bhay Bowneykutti (Singtam), Topa Chisopani Jan Kalyan Sangh and Toppakhani Sai Bhajan Mandali. She is at home for the Puja festival.
Binita Sharma, mother of Geeta Sharma welcomed her daughter by blessing her with rice-tika while others offered her khadas and congratulated her. Geeta Sharma, Sikkim State Awardee in Music is the only contestant from Sikkim to take part at Voice of Nepal Season II and she has reached the Knock-out Round.
Speaking on the occasion, Geeta Sharma thanked each one present to receive her. She expressed her happiness and said, she is overwhelmed by the blessings and love showered by the people of Sikkim and every nepali speaking population. Those good-things would surely give me strength to perform better, she further said.

Singtam Audition for SNG Talent Hunt Show Season 2 completed


SINGTAM, OCTOBER 20:  The third audition of the Sikkim Newar Guthi State Level Open Talent Hunt Show Season 2 held at Singtam on October 19 saw 86 participants getting through to the Quarter final round. More than 170 participants from different parts of Sikkim including participants from Siliguri, Kurseong, Kalimpong and Darjeeling participated at different category of the show.




CP Pradhan, a former teacher of Singtam SSS was the Chief Guest of the day. Other distinguished guests included TB Pradhan, former President Rangpo Singtam Zone, Sikkim Newar Guthi, Sushen Pradhan, Secretary, SNG Youth Affair, Binod Pradhan, President, Newa Bhay Bowneykutti. Binita Pradhan, Coordinator, SNG State Level Open Talent Hunt Show Season 2 spoke in brief about the event and the upcoming Silver Jubilee Anniversary of the formation of Sikkim Newar Guthi.

The event held at Community Hall at the heart of Singtam Town had participants of all ages of life where both boys and girls had equal participation. The dancing and Singing category had a higher contribution while the performer in the mono act, painting, and beatbox also won the heart of the judges and the gathered crowds. The next audition will be held at Gangtok and the participants will again return to Singtam for the quarter-final round. The judges of the day were Komal Gurung, Manoj Rai and Praja Pradhan while Rajesh Pradhan was the Observer.

The talent hunt show is organised by Sikkim Newar Guthi Youth Affairs in collaboration with Inspire Academy, Arithang and Sang-Martam Jan Sewa Sangathan on the occasion of the Silver Jubilee Celebration of Sikkim Newar Guthi to promote the local talents of Sikkim.

RES students visits Rhenock College and Ram Gauri Sangralaya

RONGLI, OCTOBER 20: Students of Riverine Elementary School, Melatar, Rongli from classes 4 to 8 went for an educational tour at Rhenock on October 18. The school team was escorted by Bikki Rai, Principal, and Yamuna Rai, Incharge. The places of the visit included Government College Rhenock and Ram Gauri Sangrahalaya, Rhenock. 






The students explored different sections of the library, computer science laboratory, classes, and administrative building of the Government College. At Ram Gauri Sangralaya the students and teachers enjoyed the collections of old manuscripts, driftwood arts, philately section, and other museum collectibles. They also visited the EverGreen Nursery nearby. 

The students recorded information they learned from their field trip. Nehal Das, Sita Sharma, Anisha Pradhan, and Radhika Pradhan were other teachers present at the trip. Bikki Rai, the Principal thanked the attendants from the college faculty who helped students throughout the visit to the college.

Rai praised Ganesh Pradhan, owner of Ram Gauri Sangrahalaya for his wonderful collection and providing an opportunity for the students to visit. He further thanked all the students for taking part and teachers for their support in making the trip successful.

Shantinagar and Tinek celebrates 150th Gandhi Jayanti


SHANTINAGAR : Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti celebrated the 150th Gandhi Jayanti by conducting cleanliness drive near Badminton court along Ranikhola walkway and National Highway 10 at Shantinagar, Singtam. Chief Advisor, L. N. Pradhan lighted the lamp and addressed the gathered crowd about importance of maintaining hygiene and cleanliness around our surroundings. Krishna Chettri, President, SGSS thanked everyone for coming and being part of the drive and appealed everyone to keep our place clean and green.
Presents on the day were advisors T. B. Pradhan, L. P. Chettri, Shankhar Lamichanay, K. B. Sundas, Mohan Sunar, Nisu Dulal, Senior Citizen Dew Kumari Pradhan along with executive body and other members of SGSS. A total of around 50 member participated in the cleanliness drive.


TINEK : Members of Tinek Kalyan Sangh observed 150th Gandhi Jayanti at the premises of Siddhidevi Devithan. Highlight of the day long program was the felicitation of individuals who had contributed towards the registration of the mandir. Passed out students of class x and xii were also felicitated on the day. Cultural programs by small children were highly appreciated by the crowds.

The felicitated persons included Krishna Chettri, KK Pradhan, BB Subba and PK Pradhan who had been a big support for the development of the Devithan premises and its registration. The Chief Guest and the other guest presented the mementos to the awardee. Nishama Subba, Nawraj Chettri, Anushka Bishwakarma, Dipshika Shanker and Sushma Rai was presented with mementoes for passing out class x and xii.

Santosh Kumar Pradhan and Padam Pradhan, land donor for the mandir was also felicitated on the day. Keshav Chettri, Dup Tshring Tamang, Pempa Namgyal Bhutia sang songs that was enjoyed by the crowds.


MK Pradhan was the chief guest of the day while Sarad Tamang and PS Lepcha were the special guests. He spoked about the role of Gandhi in the betterment of the society. Other person to speak on the occasion included Manoj Pradhan, Dhiraj Pradhan, PK Pradhan, Kumar Ghataney and others. Prabha Tamang was the hostess of the day.
