Guests team to motivate cricket in Sikkim; after Nepal Police Team now its turn for Rajasthan Club Kolkata

17.04.21: Cricket in Sikkim has seen a huge resurgence in the past few years and this is only good news for the people of Sikkim. Sikkim Cricket Association hosts its new season of the Khangchendzonga shield Division A League for the Clubs of Sikkim. This year though SICA has added high level guest teams in the roster.

The President SICA, Mr Lobzang G Tenzing hopes to achieve this exact objective, to galvanise the current players in Sikkim by providing a platform of exposure to top quality cricket without having to leave the State.

Even though inviting quality teams from other parts of India as well as international teams is a challenge both logistically and financially, this project is aimed at providing the best facility not just in terms of equipment but as well on field exposure. The Sikkim players have been regularly encouraged by the Association to participate in tournaments outside the state.

SICA has therefore taken upon itself to ensure this and has invited International teams and clubs from Kolkata. This would greatly benefit not only the players who currently represent Sikkim but also players who haven’t played in other parts of the country or for Sikkim yet. The first leg of the A Division league having ended with the Nepal team having left for Nepal the second phase starts from the 18th of April 2021 with (guest team) Rajasthan Club Kolkata facing Black Caps of Lachung.

Nepal police was a class apart in comparison to the local teams. They had an easy win against all the A division teams of Sikkim. A big learning experience for the many players who have never experienced outside teams of such standard. It is important to note that this exposure has not come at the cost of the opportunity for local players, as Guest teams will be playing only in Division A, in the capacity of a guest team with non eligibility to qualify for the final round, thereby ensuring maximum opportunity for our local boys/team.
