CM felicitates 8 retired teachers from Khamdong block at SAKSAM Samaroah 2023

Gangtok, On May 24, Shri PS Golay, the Chief Minister of Sikkim, presented citations to eight retired teachers from Khamdong Block at an esteemed event held at NB Bhandari Government Auditorium, Tadong, Gangtok.

The occasion marked the second edition of Siksam 2022-2023, organized by the Sikkim Teacher's Association (STA), where retired teachers (2021) from various blocks across the state were honored for their exceptional contributions to education. The event was further enriched by the release of Guru Darpan, the literary magazine of STA.

Smt. Geeta Pradhan, Smt. Tara Pradhan, Mrs. Karma Sangden Bhutia, Smt. Yog Maya Sharma, and Shri Sanja Bahadur Subba had the honor of receiving their citations directly from the Chief Minister. Meanwhile, Shri Dolanath Bastola, President of STA, Khamdong Block, graciously accepted the citations on behalf of Shri Madan Kumar Tamang, Shri Manoj Kumar Singh, and Smt. Bimla Rai.


Representing the Khamdong STA Block, the esteemed individuals present were Shri Dolanath Bastola, Shri PB Subba, Shri Bikash Bhattrai, Shri Shital Pradhan, Shri Lobzang Bhutia, and Smt. Anjani Pradhan.

The Chief Minister, Shri PS Golay, expressed his gratitude and admiration for the tireless efforts of the retired teachers. He commended them for their selfless service and emphasized the crucial role teachers play in building a strong foundation for the progress and development of society. Shri Golay also reiterated the government's commitment to continuously support and recognize the contributions of educators in the state.

Sikkim Philatelic Society Hosts Philatelic Workshop at Army Public School in Gangtok

Gangtok, May 10th, 2023 – The Sikkim Philatelic Society held a philatelic workshop at the Army Public School in Gangtok yesterday, with more than thirty students from classes five to nine in attendance. The workshop was organized by the Army Postal Office, Gangtok, in association with the Sikkim Philatelic Society and Gangtok HPO, Sikkim Post.


The event saw the participation of Karamjit Singh, Field Post Master, 771 FPO, Gangtok; Sameer Pradhan, Marketing Executive Gangtok HPO, Sikkim Post; Ganesh Pradhan; Shital Pradhan, President and General Secretary, Sikkim Philatelic Society; and teachers and students of Army Public School, Gangtok. This workshop is part of a series of philatelic seminars organized by the Army in different parts of North Bengal and Sikkim.


Shital Pradhan, General Secretary of the SPS, delivered a video presentation on the basics of philately to newcomers. Eleven aspiring stamp collectors founded the Army Public School's Black Cat Philatelic Club in Gangtok. The Sikkim Post provided stamp-collecting kits to each student. Sameer Pradhan hosted quiz competitions, and the winners received prizes. Pradhan also informed students about different scholarships and competitions organized by the Ministry of Communication and Technology, Government of India, Department of Post.

Karamjit Singh and Ganesh Pradhan addressed the gathered audience and wished them the best wishes in their philatelic journey. The Sikkim Philatelic Society gifted philatelic items and philatelic beginners' books authored by Roshan Prasad, a member of SPS, to the new Philatelic Club.

The Sikkim Philatelic Society aims to promote philately and encourage young people to take up stamp collecting as a hobby. The workshop was a great success, and the SPS hopes to organize more such events in the future.

Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti holds meeting with local shopkeepers to ensure compliance with licensing regulations

Shantinagar, May 7, 2023 - Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti (SGSS) held a meeting with local shopkeepers in the area to discuss issues related to licensing compliance. The meeting was chaired by Krishna Chettri, President of SGSS, and was attended by Panchayat Sumita Pradhan of Panchayat Ward No. 4, Deepa Chhetri of Panchayat Ward No. 5, and the shopkeepers of the area. During the meeting, it was communicated that those shopkeepers who were unable to attend today's meeting should be informed about the minutes and decisions made.



The meeting began with a two-minute silence to pay tribute to 25-year-old Shaheed Siddhant Chhetri, a Darjeeling resident serving in the Indian Army, who recently lost his life. Krishna Chettri then briefed attendees on the purpose of the meeting, which was to ensure compliance with licensing regulations for local shops. Nishant Chettri, a member of SGSS was the host of the day, the program was conducted very smoothly. 

During the meeting, it was noted that some shops in the area were operating without proper licenses. Shopkeepers were requested to obtain licenses within three months, failing which the samaj and local authorities would not be held responsible if they were found guilty when checked by the Department. It was also advised that shops should not sell items on closed days and maintain proper opening and closing timings. Each licensed shop should display its name and license information prominently.

Krishna Chettri also urged all house owners not to sublet their shops to other individuals. Shopkeepers were advised not to sell items above the printed price, expired items, or items without proper licenses. Overwriting on items should also be avoided.

All shopkeepers present at the meeting expressed their views on the matter. The meeting concluded with a commitment from all attendees to ensure compliance with licensing regulations.

Ranikhola Walkway Extension Survey Completed in Singtam

Singtam, Sikkim, May 4, 2023 — Today marked a significant milestone for the residents of Singtam and the surrounding areas as the survey for the extension of the Ranikhola Walkway was successfully completed. The 1.6-kilometer extension will connect the Sumin Lingzey Bridge, near Singtam Fruit Preservatory Factory to the new hospital site near Toppakhani, providing improved access to essential services and creating a more connected community.


Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti (SGSS) and Urban Development Department (UDD) officials collaborated in conducting the survey, with invaluable assistance from SGSS President Krishna Chettri. UDD officials Sukhang Limboo, Junior Engineer, and Bhawani Kumar Regmi, Supervisor, worked closely with the SGSS team to measure and assess the proposed walkway extension.



The initiative to extend the Ranikhola Walkway, which previously spanned from Singtam Lal Bazaar to Sumin Lingzey Bridge, was led by Krishna Chettri. A request letter prepared on the letterhead of Shantinagar Gaon Sudhar Samiti was submitted to the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Sikkim on May 19, 2022, who kindly forwarded it to the Secretary of the Urban Development Department.

With Krishna Chettri's consistent follow-ups and collaboration with Urban Development Department officials, the survey was successfully completed today.
